The GPU news and rumor site VideoCardz.com had yet another post about the GTX 960 yesterday, and this time the site claims they have most of the details about this unreleased GPU with new leaked photos from a forum on the Chinese site PCEVA.
The card is reportedly based on Maxwell GM206, a 1024 CUDA core part recently announced with the introduction of the GTX 965M. Clock speed was not listed but alleged screenshots indicate the sample had a 1228 MHz core and 1291 MHz Boost clock. The site is calling this an overclock, but it's still likely that the core would have a faster clock speed than the GTX 970 and 980.
The card will reportedly feature 2GB of 128-bit GDDR5 memory, though doubtless 4GB variants would likely be available after launch from the various vendors (an important option considering the possibility of the new card natively supporting triple DisplayPort monitors). Performance will clearly be a step down from the initial GTX 900-series offerings as NVIDIA has led with their more performant parts, but the 960 should still be a solid choice for 1080p gaming if these screenshots are real.
The specs as listed on the page at VideoCardz.com are follows (they do not list clock speed):
- 28nm GM206-300 GPU
- 1024 CUDA cores
- 64(?) TMUs
- 32 ROPs
- 1753 MHz memory
- 128-bit memory bus
- 2GB memory size
- 112 GB/s memory bandwidth
- DirectX 11.3/12
- 120W TDP
- 1x 6-pin power connector
- 1x DVI-I, 1x HDMI 2.0, 3x DP
We await official word on pricing and availability for this unreleased GPU.
Reviewers should really stop
Reviewers should really stop posting stupid 3dmark scores. An here’s why, different sites show different scores. Like the guys over at Guru3d are showing a 6636 score for the GTX960, but on that listing is showing 7509.
I hear what you’re saying,
I hear what you’re saying, but I don’t see how that is any different than different websites showing different scores for the same game. There’s always going to be wide variations based on clocks, builds, drivers, etc.
This is claimed to be an
This is claimed to be an overclock so variability on benchmarks seems pretty natural.
I just puked in my mouth a
I just puked in my mouth a little. Seems the only real quality card in the 900 Series is and will be the 970 for a long time to come. That’s a huge drop off from the 970.
So, I’m kinda getting deja vu
So, I’m kinda getting deja vu here. Like its late 2013 with a 7870 I picked up for $150. Only, odds are it will be $200+. Yay or something.
You guys do know there will
You guys do know there will be two more cards labeled with “TI” that are suposed to be even better than the 960 and will fill the price gap from the $230-$350 range. One is most likely a 965TI.
Just more unnecessary
Just more unnecessary confusion in the ranks. Doing the same thing by slicing a few percent off each card like the 600 Series and selling 5 different cards (650, 650 Ti, 650 Ti Boost, 660, and 660 Ti) all with negligible performance unless you went from the top to the bottom.
So the 680 and 770 will still
So the 680 and 770 will still be faster than the 960 ?
A few sources i read said
A few sources i read said Nvidia was having trouble shrinking the new die… So the TI variants wont be hitting till Q4
960 = turd
960 = turd
If you are a gamer on a
If you are a gamer on a budget and solid 1080 gaming is all you care about the gtx 960 is fast enough to run every game out right now at full quality with 60 fps well maybe 99% of games out now. The only issue I can see with this card is maybe in the next few years that wont be the case but with the way consoles are holding back games the 960 should last you just fine. I would just make sure to get a 4GB variant because with AA turned on a lot of games are using between 2000-2500 MB of video ram at 1080 and the problem will just get worse as time goes on. But yea a 4GB GTX 960 is all a budget 1080 gamer needs for the foreseeable future.
I’m still waiting on the GM 200 vs 390x battle before i upgrade because i’m running 2560×1600 and even the gtx 980 cannot pull solid 60 fps numbers on ultra settings with a lot of games and I don’t like multi gpu setups and the inconsistent scaling and micro stuttering issues that can be a burden. And it’s rough waiting when you are using a 5870.
Hmm
I was in the situation of
Hmm
I was in the situation of not having a PCI-E graphics card at all. I was using my i5’s HD4000. I was supposed to be waiting for 960 release but saw NVIDIA were going to mess about releasing many versions of this, slowest first. Whilst their business practices are probably good for them, they’re not good for the customer
Ended up buying a 970 only a few days ago, for 1080p gaming (i may get a 1440p monitor at some point). Hoping it lasts out till the 3570k is no longer cutting it. I bought it because i saw the massive gulf between it and this card. Probably overkill but NVIDIA forced my hand. Been a fan of theirs since ever (TNT-2) but am less of a fan lately with the delays on this card
