Youtube has finally ditched Flash as the default player for video in Chrome, Internet Explorer 11 and Safari 8. If you use the beta builds of Firefox you will also be provided HTML5 video by default but as of yet the official release will still be playing Flash videos. The adaptive bitrate which HTML5 can handle, without the use of plugins, could reduce buffering by 50% in a normal situation and up to 80% on congested networks according to the information which was given to The Inquirer. As well the VP9 Codec can provide a stream at 35% less bandwidth than Flash which makes 4K and 60fps videos start much faster. Flash is not yet dead and you can revert back to it, if you want to play Snake while your video is loading.
"GOOGLE'S YOUTUBE video portal has made the switch to HTML5 as a default renderer, marking yet another milestone in the downfall of the Adobe Flash format."

Is ther a way to get current
Is ther a way to get current versions of Firefox to use html5? I noticed chrome has different features when playing YouTube videos. It has a speed setting to allow both slower and faster which does not seem to be present when using Firefox. I don’t know if this is an html5 or just a chrome feature though. It is useful to be able to listen to vlogs and such at 1.5x speed.
um the speed option is just
um the speed option is just html5 & you were free to use it for many months if not years https://www.youtube.com/html5
as for the 60fps videos, about:config > media.mediasource.enabled > true, with the potential of being slightly buggier than default disabled (FF35 & below, while 36 beta / upcoming will have it enabled if i understood correctly)
I tried it, after going
I tried it, after going through all the rigamarole needed to work it with Firefox, and it’s just too buggy for me still, with audio dropouts and HD video player pause problems, so I’ll stick to Flash just this little bit longer.
Has anyone been having
Has anyone been having trouble with flash ads crashing the videos that are being watched on some anime websites? I have been getting a lot of ads that are calling non existent functions, and bringing down the video, and I am beginning to suspect some of the pushed ads are doing this on purpose, to get more ad hits with the reload. Flash has always been a resource hog, but when there are loads of flash based ads, even a core i7 based system can be overwhelmed, using IE does not help either, as the bloat is there also.
then block ads or stop using
then block ads or stop using free (& semi pirated) streaming sites
streaming still uses bandwidth so you might as well download at this point
Since i have terrible German
Since i have terrible German internet i need to pre-buffer even 720p videos (which is not possible afaik with html5) so i’ll stick with flash for the time being.
Thank you YoutubeCenter (developer version) you rock! 😀
html5 is the one that
html5 is the one that prebuffers the whole video, the YT flash player stops prebuffering after a point
As much as I hate flash,
As much as I hate flash, especially since infamous bloatware-maker Adobe bought Macromedia, HTML5 is a steaming pile of sh*t in optimisation compared to Flash. We are lucky as long as it is not shoved down our throat as a lot of other sh*tty things, like mpeg-2, or even flash.
what ‘the f’ are you talking
what ‘the f’ are you talking about? flash is consistently slower or more demanding at everything, from little animations of a box rotating to video players, especially in firefox
where does mpeg2 even come from? we’re not talking about dvds or old camcorders
last i checked, html5 is shoved down everything for the last few years, deal with it
