They are not the most glamorous of peripherals but they do save your desk and can help you with your accuracy, so pop over to Overclockers Club to take a look at XTracPads. They offer three different sized gaming mats from the paper sized Carbonic at 8.5" x 11" x 1/8" to the Ripper at a larger 11" x 17" x 1/8" to the immense Ripper XXL at 36" x 18" x 1/8" which is going to cover a goodly piece of your desk. They are priced at roughly $15, $22 and $35 so it is not a major investment to pick up and well worth it if you are looking to replace an old mat which has seen better days.
"From a casual gamer perspective, I am sure someone who can game competitively will likely notice a greater improvement than I. Personally, I have had trouble with mouse pads that were too hard, not stiff, but solid cutouts of plastic (I don't even know if they are made anymore really). I have also had issues with mouse pads that accumulate a bunch of gross after a bit of use. I can live with poor or cheap mouse pads, but now that I have had a taste of the other side I really don't want to anymore."

I want a mouse mat with a
I want a mouse mat with a smooth enough surface to allow the smallest of movements, and a mouse that does not stick to my hands when I try to release it, and cause the mouse to move. A mouse that was designed to be used for graphics work, 3d modeling, where very small movements can be registered while editing vertices, and not move around when the mouse is clicked, a heavier mouse with a no stick surface. I keep may hands and mouse very clean, but even then the sweat can cause my hands to stick to the mouse, and I have to slowly release my grip on the mouse and hope it does not stick and move. Finding a heavy enough mouse that has some stability, and is able to register the finest of movements, all without becoming sticky after a few hours is impossible. I would love to see a mouse that was paired with a mouse pad and engineered to provide accurate movement, but most non gaming mice are the light weight plastic variety, even the more expensive ones, and if you are doing any mesh modeling/3d there is no way around having your hands become sweaty from hours of continuous use. My current mouse pad is getting a bit fuzzy.
Roccat Sense Chrome Blue
Roccat Sense Chrome Blue 2mm.
I was so tired of cloth pads, and then I found this one. No peeling, no sweat ground into it, smoooooth.
You’re welcome!
Someone on another blog
Someone on another blog suggested one of those thin flexible cutting boards that they sell at the dollar store, and other places, you have seen those that come in packages of 4, or 5 colors, and are very thin. I may give that a try, with some grips, or rubber grip material glued to the underside. That could make for some sweat resistance. Now off to the bait and tackle to get come lead shot to give my mouse a little more weight, and keep it from moving while I try to move my hand from the mouse to do a 2 handed key combination in the mesh edit mode, do they even make Teflon coated mice.
How this post was ever
How this post was ever posted, the Captcha generator for this service is unreadable by even humans, and sometimes even with a definite match, it still rejects the post. Whomever coded the PHP/whatever for this posting system does not know the meaning of testing/regression testing, as there are plenty of quirky phase of moon errors, and other such non functioning calls to API/methods, and word parsing borkings that frustrate to no end. The word wrap does not strip trailing spaces off of words correctly, causing words to skip back and forth between lines, and it refuses to make other editing easy, other than cutting and pasting to note pad/other and correcting it there, then repasting into the this Text box.

I have A corsair MM600.
I have A corsair MM600. Brought it because it seemed intersting after having to deal with the old fashioned mouse pads peeling on me after a few weeks of use. Have had it for about 6 months and it is perfect. Big enough to allow movement though 2 monitors and since its not fabric, no peeling.
I’ve had every gimmick mouse
I’ve had every gimmick mouse mat out there. From ones made from aluminum with special texture and pattern to special thin precision mats. Small ones to ones the size of a desk. Cheap ones to $30 ones.
Ultimately, I have never found anything as accurate and problem-free as just using the Formica inlay on my custom built desk. It’s easier to keep clean, far more accurate, smoother, doesn’t get hung up on anything, and is easier to keep dust and cat hair out of.

I use my wooden desk, it’s one of those super sanded then varnished surfaces. So it’s very smooth and my mouse seems to work fine on it.
As you said you have many mouse pads, do you think I’m missing our on much, I mean it seems to be fine.
I have been using a Ripper XL
I have been using a Ripper XL for what seems like forever. Best mat I have used. I have tried many more but always go back to my Ripper.

how can anyone give a single fuck about any of this?
or are you all still using BALL mice? or maybe someone still thinks optical mice are a good idea?

What’s wrong with optical mice?
I think his comment might
I think his comment might simply be due to laser mice being able to track on pretty much everything, for example optical can’t track on glass.
Laser mice can also reach higher DPI, however if that’s a good thing or not, depends on what DPI you want.
I think I’d be more concerned about which sensor model has less acceleration than the method.
lol

Optical sensored mice have
Optical sensored mice have superior and more consistent tracking over laser. The problem is that both types of sensors have superior aspects as well as some negatives.
