Impressively, NVIDIA just showed the new SHIELD powered by Tegra X1 running a version of both Doom 3 and Crysis 3 running natively on Android! The games were running at impressive quality and performance levels.
I have included some videos of these games being played on the SHIELD, but don't judge the visual quality of the game with these videos. They were recorded with a Panasonic GH2 off a 4K TV in a dimly lit room.
Doom 3 is quoted to run at full 1920×1080 and 60 FPS while Crysis 3 is much earlier in its development. Both games looked amazing considering we are talking about a system that has a total power draw of only 15 watts!
While these are just examples of the power that Tegra X1 can offer, it's important to note that this type of application is the exception, not the rule, for Android gaming. Just as we see with Half-Life 2 and Portal NVIDIA did most of the leg work to get this version of Doom 3 up and running. Crysis 3 is more of an effort from Crytek explicitly – hopefully this port is as gorgeous as this first look played.
All available on the Xbox 360
All available on the Xbox 360 and PS3, and anything else that accepts a power plug. The engines of course support easy porting to other OSs and platforms. Low effort ports are important to a platform’s success, but they’re exactly that – low effort.
is it responsive or laggy
is it responsive or laggy when streaming games?
Responsive.. I’ve tested it
Responsive.. I’ve tested it at over 3,000 miles from the servers and only noticed lag on street fighter during prime time.
I do have good internet.
It’s comparable to a console in the room playing a single player game. The time from input to screen update is about 150ms including 33ms TV latency and a 60ms ping. The TV is the big question mark in the equation. Some TV’s are quite bad going over 66 ms.
I find the ability to play
I find the ability to play games when not at home something that i yearn for- however – i never really found the time like when i was a teen.
i think that is the problem with this market space- we remember what it was like when we were children – but as adults- we go somewhere and our time is booked- or we find ourselves really interested in events around us- and gaming is far from our minds.
you are not sitting in a car anymore being driven by mom, you are not waiting for the bus or in the library etc..
so nice technical achievement- but doomed for failure- not enough market and too expensive
Yeah… and when this would
Yeah… and when this would actually be cool… Nvidia just locks it down to their own hardware. So this will not get any attention.
