Today at their Tech World event in Beijing, Lenovo is taking the opportunity to announce some new mainstream notebook options.
First off, we have simply the Lenovo Z41 and Z51. The 14-inch Z41 and 15.6-inch Z51 aim to refresh the previous Z40 and Z50 with Broadwell CPUs as well as new AMD discrete GPU options.
Lenovo is using the Broadwell-U class of CPUs here as you would find in ultra books, so don't expect a CPU powerhouse, but for productivity style tasks these machines should hit the sweet spot of Price vs Performance with a starting price of $549 for the base Z51.
Paired with the new AMD R9-M360 (Z41) or M375 (Z51) these notebooks should also be able to play mainstream titles on the integrated 1080p display while coming in just over $800.
The Lenovo Z51 and Z41 are available on Lenovo's site now.
Lenovo also announced a low-cost entry into the ideapad line utilizing Intel's BayTrail-M processors. The ideapad 100 is available in both 14-inch and 15-inch variants and seems to be aimed at the low-cost Chromebook market.
Starting at $249, the ideapad 100 seems like it will be a good option for users looking for a secondary option for basic web browsing and office tasks.
Stay tuned for more from Lenovo's Tech World Event this week!
16:9 displays on laptops
16:9 displays on laptops really do look like shit.
In a perfect world we would move to 16:10 for laptops.
And 24:10 for desktop monitors.
I can understand 16:10, but
I can understand 16:10, but 24:10? I hope this never happen. OK if we are talking about TVs, but PC monitors? No thanks. 16:9 is already bad compared to 4:3 for browsing and typical usage. 24:10 would have been a disaster as a standard.
21:9 is lightyears better for
21:9 is lightyears better for gaming than anything else. I really meant to say desktop should have two standards 24:10 and 16:10. And laptops 16:10 only.
My point was to have two standards. But having a single middle-ground standard really just pisses off everyone.
There are already 21:9 and
There are already 21:9 and 16:10 monitors if someone wants one. With a fast look in a Greek price engine, it shows 686 16:9 models, 149 16:10 models and 91 21:9 models, so there are plenty of options for everyone.
Nope.
When those 686 models
Nope.
When those 686 models taken up with 16:9 are divided amongst the 16:10 and 21:9 ones… THEN there will be options for everyone.
Theres quite a lot of LACK when it comes to any better-than-60hz technologies for 21:9 or 16:10.
Anything from Lenovo is Super
Anything from Lenovo is Super Fishy, so I’ll pass. And those new screenshots of windows 10 are God Awful! I can not tell where the edges of the windows are as apposed to any of the active page area. I hate screen buttons with no indicators that the button was pressed, and I usually wind up pressing again thinking that it has not worked, at least change the color of the button briefly to acknowledge that an action was received. This flat scheme with closely keyed colors is the most terrible design for visible cues, and Aero needs to return on the desktop.
Universal Apps, are just another name for a phone apps UI taking over the desktop experience, and 10 is just a poorly gimped windows 8 visual experience, and we all Know how that worked out. M$ needs to get that phone interface, as well as the flat design style out of the start menu completely and move it to a special place where the sun does not shine. Windows 10 is nothing more than the start screen shoved into the start menu real estate, so it’s just all of the 8 cruft moved around! What a shell game M$ is trying to pull with its UI madness, and that’s potentially over 2 OS releases now.
