Of course this is completely unsubstantiated, and Fury is a branding scheme from the ATI days, but who knows? I can only hope that if true, AMD will adopt all caps: TITAN! FURY! Feel the excitement. What do you think of this possible name for the upcoming AMD flagship GPU?
Rumor: AMD To Name Upcoming Flagship Fiji GPU “Radeon Fury”
Another rumor has emerged about an upcoming GPU from AMD, and this time it’s a possible name for the HBM-powered Fiji card a lot of us have been speculating about.
New box art revealed! (Or a product from early 2000.) Image: VideoCardz
The rumor from VideoCardz via Expreview (have to love the multiple layers of reporting here) states the the new card will be named Radeon Fury:
“Radeon Fury would be AMD’s response to growing popularity of TITAN series. It is yet unclear how AMD is planning to adopt Fury naming schema. Are we going to see Fury XT or Fury PRO? Well, let’s just wait and see. This rumor also means that Radeon R9 390X will be a direct rebrand of R9 290X with 8GB memory.”
Personally, I think they
Personally, I think they should call it Zeus, or R9 Zeus, or something like that, because in Greek Mythology, Zeus and his siblings overthrew the Titans in a ten-year war-of-the-gods called the Titanomachy. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanomachy)
This would also fit in well with the rumor from back in January about AMD’s “King of the Hill” line of GPUs. (http://videocardz.com/54265/amd-to-launch-300w-gpu-with-high-bandwidth-memory)
no, no, no, if they are going
no, no, no, if they are going to go with Greek Mythology, then AMD should do the ultimate troll and call their card’s URANUS, which is the father of the TITANS
Awesome. The Fury is coming
Awesome. The Fury is coming back!!!! I love it. I used to have a Fury back in the day.
They could call it macaroni
They could call it macaroni for all I care, as long as the performance per dollar is there, and HBM eventually makes it onto APUs. I’m looking forward to a Zen based laptop APU SKU with at least 6 cores, and the latest graphics/HBM. I think that the Apple folks would seriously look at a Zen based APU with better graphics than Intel could provide. This Fury/whatever is just the start of a sea change in the SOC market, as well as the discrete GPU market. HBM is going to allow for even better improvements when it is paired with SOCs/APUs and gives laptops, other mobile devices all the memory bandwidth that any SOC with an integrated GPU could ever need, while also providing the CPU with the same bandwidth, all while saving more space on laptops/mobile devices for other resources.
HBM and maybe an optical channel(to keep the off module mainboard less cluttered) from the interposer to a JEDEC standard NVRAM pool/storage will make for some great laptops/workstations, as well as gaming laptops. HBM will definitely future proof the SOC/APU market for some time to come for memory bandwidth once it becomes standard on OEM Laptop/mobile SKUs. So let the innovation begin again in the PC/Laptop market.
Are you talking about
Are you talking about NVDIMM?

(Jeremy linked this in another thread a few days ago)
I don’t think we will see optical interconnect on consumer level boards anytime soon. We apparently will get nvram connected via the memory controller which will be significantly faster. Although, ddr4 type interface doesn’t seem like the best fit. The hybrid memory cube (HMC) seems like a better option for connecting different types of memory, but it is not a jedec standard. It does have a lot of support though, so who knows which direction we are headed.

Here here Anonymous! Everything he/she said…
Bring on the AMD Radeon HD Macaroni Salad! I want the model with extra pickle bandwidth myself! :p
Perhaps the “Fury” version
Perhaps the “Fury” version will be the compact water cooled version that have been in all the leaks. It would be higher clocked and perhaps come with more RAM (if that’s possible). The 390X would be reserved for more traditional air cooled designs.
Not sure water-cooled and
Not sure water-cooled and “all the leaks” should be in the same sentence?
I prefer when PC Per sticks
I prefer when PC Per sticks to actual news instead of rumors. I know that these rumors probably generate a lot of hits for you guys but I’ve always preferred your more professional approach to PC news.
Also I think Fury wouldn’t be as good of a name as Zeus.
On the other hand not
On the other hand not everyone have PCPer AND Wccftech AND Videocardz in their bookmarks. So people who are not crazy enough to have 60 hardware sites in their bookmarks list, that check everyday, do deserve to have some extra info TODAY about what is coming in the hardware arena soon, by just opening one site.
IMHO, calling things “pro” is
IMHO, calling things “pro” is just stupid, unless it is actually a workstation card with ECC and other features a professional would need. I don’t really like “Fury”, but I don’t care too much about the branding.
Just call it Hector.
Just call it Hector.
