At Computex this week ASUS is showing off a prototype of the new ROG 3800R monitor, a 34-in curved display with a 3440×1440 resolution and G-Sync variable refresh rate capability. ASUS claims on its PCDIY blog that the 21:9 aspect ratio was the one of the "most requested" specifications for a new ROG monitor, followed by a curved design. The result is a gorgeous display:
Here's a list of specifications:
- 34” optimal dimension for QHD resolutions with 3440×1440 resolution
- 21:9 ultra-wide aspect ratio for increased immersion and improved horizontal workflow
- IPS based panel for superior color reproduction, black levels and reduction of color shifting
- NVIDIA G-SYNC equipped offering smooth, fluid and tear free gaming with improved motion clarity. Additionally equipped with ULMB operating mode for outstanding motion clarity.
- Frameless design for seamless surround gaming
- ASUS exclusive GamePlus feature and Turbo Key
- Ergonomic adjustment including tilt, swivel and height adjustment
Hot damn, we want of these and we want it yesterday! There is no mention of the refresh rate of the display here though we did see information from NVIDIA that ASUS was planning a 34×14 60 Hz screen – but we are not sure this is the same model being shown. And the inclusion of ULMB would normally indicate a refresh rate above 60-75 Hz…
Another interesting note: this monitor appears to include both DisplayPort and HDMI connectivity.
This 34-inch 3800R curved display features wide-viewing angles, a 3440 x 1440 native resolution, and 21:9 aspect ratio. It features NVIDIA® G-SYNC™ display technology to deliver smooth, lag-free visuals. G-SYNC synchronizes the display’s refresh rate to the GPU in any GeForce® GTX™-powered PC to eliminate screen tearing and minimizing display stutter and input lag. This results in sharper, more vibrant images; and more fluid and responsive gameplay. It has extensive connectivity options that include DisplayPort and HDMI.
The above information came from ASUS just a few short hours ago, so you can assume that it is accurate. Could this be the start of panels that integrate dual scalars (G-Sync module plus something else) to offer more connectivity or has the G-Sync module been updated to support more inputs? We'll find out!
Sweet mother of pearl that’s
Sweet mother of pearl that’s a beauty. Just need a 144hz version and maybe quad 980ti’s. Anyone need a kidney?
3440×1440 is 40% less pixels
3440×1440 is 40% less pixels than 4k. 2x 980 (non ti) should be sufficient.
I agree plus the efficacy of
I agree plus the efficacy of DX12 (on newer titles ) will definitely reduce the need for SLI .
Its not a traditional
Its not a traditional 3840×2560 because its ultrawide. It will never be either so long as its….ultra-wide. That is 4k resolution. You’ll have the same quality as you would a regular UHD monitor. Except of course, its ultra wide and imo, a lot better for gaming. You have added perspective rather than just seeing the sky or ceiling textures. Its well worth the trade off
120hz should be EASILY doable
120hz should be EASILY doable with displayport 1.2
(theres enough bandwidth for 147hz)
This better be a 100hz IPS. otherwise i rather just keep fucking waiting
same.
same.
No there isn’t!! What the
No there isn’t!! What the hell are you talking about? At this resolution the absolute MAX is around 110Hz. The bandwidth simply won’t allow for any more.
Love how all these people
Love how all these people talk about 100+ hz on their monitors are if they’d notice the frames even if their rigs could even push a steady 120+ FPS in the games they played. Unless you’re rocking titans in SLI, 120+ consistently on your rig is way out of reach.
I’d rather have 60-100 FPS all the time then have 120 for 5 seconds while my view is pointed at the ground anyday.
Don’t say I have a shitty rig either. I have 2 way 980s and I don’t get close to 120. Unless I want it to look like complete shit, which in turn defeats the purpose of being a computer rig enthusiast (for gaming of course). And don’t say you play CS competitively, because you don’t. You pug, or play clan matches for fun. Which doesn’t count.
/end rant
WOW, amazing, makes my PG278Q
WOW, amazing, makes my PG278Q look like shit. It is at least 85Hz. ULMB doesn’t work below that.
85hz i might be able to live
85hz i might be able to live with… least its something BIT BETTER than the puketastic 60hz
id love to see some fraps
id love to see some fraps footage of you consistently over or at 85 FPS with your settings at max (or close to it). You obviously puke when it looks like garbage, so we know you don’t do that.
Post it up. This’ll be funny.
PC gamers have spoken and
PC gamers have spoken and ASUS has responded…this I believe will be the new standard in PC gaming for years to come..
many thanks ASUS….!
I’d like to see a VA variant
I’d like to see a VA variant with the same specs, but hey, I’d be perfectly okay with this one as well. Bracing myself for dat price.
“IPS based panel for superior
“IPS based panel for superior black levels”
Are they using some new panel tech here? I have never seen IPS deliver more than about 1000:1 contrast. That’s not even decent; certainly not “superior”.
That obviously means
That obviously means “superior to TN panels”.
A rather low standard. “It’s
A rather low standard. “It’s better than the worst display technology ever released!”
For that matter, TN seems to top out around the same contrast as IPS (1000:1), so I’m still hoping that it’s something better than the IPS we’re used to.
OLED is the only thing thats
OLED is the only thing thats better than IPS… can u imagine the cost?
VA panels have about 3x the
VA panels have about 3x the contrast of IPS (although they have other disadvantages), and literally every other display technology delivers better image quality than LCD (certainly in terms of contrast and viewing angles): OLED, plasma, SED/FED (before they died a premature and unfortunate death), and even CRT deliver much better contrast than IPS as well as perfect viewing angles and generally far superior screen uniformity.
So no, OLED is not the only display better than IPS. It’s sad how quickly people forget what we once had, and that’s probably why image quality consistently loses out to thin, light, and cheap.
va sucks for gaming.
va sucks for gaming.
I want 3, when I can buy
I want 3, when I can buy this?
3 curved displays or 3
3 curved displays or 3 pg279qs??
I wonder if they will offer a
I wonder if they will offer a Free Sync version for us AMD fans?
Acer are planning on

Whining about 60Hz/FPS…
Whining about 60Hz/FPS… really? I never thought I would see the day.
most posts are positive,
most posts are positive, should I buy it?, then how much $$$$
This is the same discussion
This is the same discussion all over from the Acer XR341CKA model. The g-sync module is most likely the new g-sync module v2 that acer already confirmed (it supports DP and 1 additional HDMI input).
Acer’s monitor will be 75Hz, most were hoping for 144Hz but that’s certainly not possible because of bandwidth limits. If they manage to do a 100/120Hz version of it I would be all over it though.
Wow looks fantastic, only
Wow looks fantastic, only thing is in Photoshop or doing CAD work, how do i draw a straight line?
then you wouldn’t want to buy
then you wouldn’t want to buy this monitor then. Stick with a flat panel.

All we need now is a 4k 32″
All we need now is a 4k 32″ ROG monitor – too small with the planned ROG 27″ and 4K. And if Asus is able to keep the IPS panel under 5 or 6 ms and perhaps even a plus say 75 Hz – then U got a winner and my money. And if u really nailed it a DP1.2a or 1.3 – still retaining Gsync then it’s amazing!!
I agree 100% however it
I agree 100% however it doesn’t look like any 32″ 4k Gsync displays are on the horizon. 🙁
Ultrawide is so much better
Ultrawide is so much better than regular 4k. What crack are you smoking?
Has everyone forgotten game
Has everyone forgotten game devs need to keep this resolution in mind when developing their games? How many game are going to actually look good at this red? Zero right now. Though does explain why nvidia released the driver that does windowed mode gsync otherwise this monitor I DOA.
… never go full retard

Actually I’m gaming on a
Actually I’m gaming on a 3440×1440 at 21:9 and about 99% of the games I played have worked. I’m using LG 34UC97-S. The exception seems to be the assassins creed series looks stretched and CS:GO get’s cut as it only handles it 16:9.
I wonder if this is Windows10
I wonder if this is Windows10 compatible ?
is it a touch screen ???
Touchscreen?! LMAO Get out

At that point, why not just regular 4k at 3840×2160? Wide is nice, but why must a wide display be so short?
It’s the equivalent of a 27″
