Another interesting bit of news surrounding Computex and the new GTX 980 Ti comes from EVGA and its PrecisionX software. This is easily our favorite tool for overclocking and GPU monitoring, so it's great to see the company continuing to push forward with features and capability. EVGA is the first to add full support for DX12 with an overlay.
What does that mean? It means as DX12 applications that find their way out to consumers and media, we will now have a tool that can help measure performance and monitor GPU speeds and feeds via the PrecisionX overlay. Before this release, we were running the dark with DX12 demos, so this is great news!
You can download the latest version over on EVGA's website!
It’s refreshing that EVGA are
It’s refreshing that EVGA are creating something new; they usually just copy afterburner. 😛

EVGA’s Precision X was a
EVGA’s Precision X was a terrible utility and switched to Afterburner… and switched from EVGA cards to MSI for good measure.
It’s definitely had its ups
It’s definitely had its ups and downs, especially downs after the falling-out between EVGA and Unwinder, but EVGA has been steadily improving it and now it has some nice features as well as actually working, for the most part. It’s still a little bit buggy, but usable, and has some GUI slowdown issues (at least last I’ve noticed – I haven’t put the newest version through all of the paces yet).
Also, to be fair, I have my computer on crunching for BOINC projects (including several GPU tasks) nearly all the time, so some might not notice the issues with Precision X that I do.
Afterburner is of course a good option, but Precision X is getting better and is in my opinion at least a halfway decent choice as it is now.
As for getting my graphics cards from EVGA, that isn’t going to change any time soon as EVGA has done an amazing job of taking care of me as a customer. One example being: After I had already upgraded to two Titan Black SC cards in my main rig, I noticed that one of my two 680 FTW+ cards kept crashing the drivers in another build a friend and I were working on. We were able to determine that it was an issue with the specific card itself, likely a voltage regulation issue as the drivers actually seemed to crash less frequently when the card was loaded. These cards had been nearly fully loaded for a couple of years crunching for BOINC as well, so it’s understandable that some issues like this might have developed over time. Though granted, the cards were still covered under their basic warranties. Anyway, they replaced the bad card with a 770 FTW card (a modest upgrade) and when I told them the 680 had been used in SLI with another 680, they replaced the second 680 with another 770, no questions asked, even though the second 680 didn’t have anything wrong with it. They even payed for shipping, including sending me a shipping label to send the second 680 back. So my two used and abused 680s got free upgrades to two new 770s. More than a little decent of EVGA, if you ask me.
To each their own and all, but with customer service like that, how could I not recommend them?
It’s a very good software but
It’s a very good software but Opera browser has VERY bad performance with EVGA PRECISION X since 5.3.3 version (5.3.2 is good).
So does precision X v5 even
So does precision X v5 even work yet?
I am still using 4.2.1 due to the fact their new version was completely broken.

See my reply comment above as well. But long story short, it’s pretty decent now. Nothing too glaring that will get in the way of someone using it.
By the way, I was one of the first people to offer the “downgraded” version of Precision X when the newer versions were having so many issues. Actually, I think I’m still hosting the install file somewhere. I’m not going to mention where though as I told EVGA that I wouldn’t pass it around beyond where I had already distributed the link without their prior consent.
