There is one other benefit of the water cooled Fury X — the cooler a chip runs, the less power it consumes… Therefore if you’re running TDP limited, 50C might give you 5-10% more power to work with than 75C. That’s a lot more wattage than the water pump consumes..

About the power supply on the
About the power supply on the AMD’s Small Form Factor Project Quantum PC, I don’t mind the external power being out of the box. Consoles have done it for years, it makes sense to me to transition to that design to be more competitive in drawing in some console people to the PC market.
I can see my friend saying, I got the new Xbox One, then I could be like, o yeah check out my system. Especially with win 10 making it possible for the 2 systems to be able to play together between the two systems.
The guy with the Xbox would be jealous and would be interested in a Quantum PC. He might not admit it, but he would be thinking of making a Quantum style PC.

Why are you linking to Kepler stuff when the 960/970/980 are Maxwell (and support 4k60 RGB / 4:4:4 over HDMI)?

Hopefully in the future AMD could get the its Fury X2 GPUs sharing an interposer, instead of sharing the PCB, as sharing an interposer would give AMD the ability to connect the two GPUs with much wider and extensive networks of connecting traces/fabrics, and give the two GPUs an ability to act as a single larger monolithic GPU does. The possibilities made available with an interposer, and its ability to host 10s of thousands of distinct traces will allow for much closer integration of GPUs linked together modularly via the interposer’s wide data paths, and allow more powerful GPU systems to be made from any size of GPU. future gaming systems on the interposer could have multiples of GPUs placed on the interposer, and allow for the GPU dies to be manufactured more to a wafer, saving more on yield losses, and allowing AMD to size its GPU power based on the number of GPU modules per interposer package.
HBM/GPU is just the start of complete scalable gaming systems on an interposer, and CPUs, FPGAs, as well as dedicated decoder chips could be added to the interposer, and because of the interposer’s wide/thousands of traces ability, these modular components can be fabbed separately from the most suitable fab process for their functionality, and because of the interposer base system abilities, these systems could act as essentially one larger monolithic single die based SOC. The future is in the System on an interposer, with the modularity afforded by interposer’s wide connection fabrics to every device placed on the interposer.

No, it’s a transitional tech at best.
I dissagree, atleast in
I dissagree, atleast in theory. Interposer tech has the POTENTIAL to completly change the way systems are built. If it continues to be used and evolves to it’s naturaul conclusion than one day you could say “I’d like X amount of cpu cores Y gpu power with Z sound and This amount of ram and that extra bit there,” and 72 hours or whatever later you get a single 3d chip to plug into your generic 1 fits all just ports and pathways mother board with the only bottle neck being the conections from the “super chip” to the input/output devices.
NOWWWWW i’m not saying that this WILL happen. I’m saying it COULD happen. technology come and go, and alot of the time the wrong tech will win due to other market forces luck or marketing.
The only way to know what’s gona happen it to wait for it to happen and look back.

I call BS on the idea that there is any technical reason why a HD can’t be cloned to an identical size HD. This is normal and is done every day. Any supposed “clone” hardware or software feature that can’t clone to an identical disk is just broken.
