Under the Hood
As we mentioned earlier, Cyonic selected Seasonic to be their OEM partner, one of the best in the business. It appears the Cyonic AU/AUx 450W, 550W and 650W power supplies are slightly modified Seasonic G-Series units (latest version) re-designed to fit in a shorter 140mm deep enclosure. The electrical specifications are identical. This is the same platform used by EVGA for their SuperNOVA 550GS and 650GS, which we reviewed earlier this year in March.
Here are a few photos of the Cyonic AU-450x showing the internal layout of components.
The Cyonic AUx Series PSUs utilizes a modern design with a primary LLC resonant converter to minimize switching losses and help increase efficiency. Synchronous rectification and two DC-to-DC converters are used on the secondary to produce the +3.3V and +5V minor rails from the +12V main section.
All of the capacitors used inside the AU-450x are high-quality Japanese made electrolytics (rated for 105°C operation) and solid polymer caps. The PSU incorporates a single primary capacitor made by Hitachi rated for 390uF, 420V and 105°C. The overall component layout is clean, leaves room for good airflow and the soldering appears very good; just what we expect from Seasonic.
