Yes, PCIe soundcards are still being made and Powercolor's Devil HDX is up for review on Overclockers Club. As with most new cards this one features three OPAMPs which can can be removed and swapped with another to change the sound that is sent to your headset or speakers. On the back are a 124db rated 6.3mm headphone jack, left and right RCA jacks, Coax output, and an optical output. The daughtercard sports 5 standard analog 3.5mm jacks to give you 7.1 surround sound support if you have the speakers for it. It is about $160 so make sure you have ears that are good enough to deserve high end sound, for many users this might be a bit of overkill.
"Setup as a stand alone solution, the Devil HDX gets to play in the best of both worlds with 124dB rated performance from the parent card and the option of running 7.1 sound through the addition of the daughter card. Here is my only beef with the Devil HDX. I know these are options that add cost, but when cultivating a brand it would just add to the package."

I was wondering if it be a good idea to benchmark other GPU cards other then Nvidia and AMD just to get a perspective on other markets out there. Hmm And now sound cards which I thought of doing if I had a good home theater system and stereo going on in my place.

Word of warning: I just bought one of these and the drivers do not work with Windows 10. The headphone and optical ports do still work, but the advanced features are useless, currently. Hopefully this will be fixed soon, it seems like a great card!

I didn’t think that they made soundcards ummmm what is this witchcraft?
Ahh c’mon Molex power
Ahh c’mon Molex power connector? I do have Xonar and whole of the family has that Floppy style 4 pin plug which is super fragile, and Powercolor came with Molex. Is is really so difficult to put SATA power plug there?
And let nobody dare laugh at dedicated sound cards. On-board audio despite much improvements over past 15 years is still nowhere when compared to high end sound cards. I can testify to that as I have to, for now, use on-board ‘SoundBlaster whatever’ because there are some issues with Xonars on many X99 boards. Looking for replacements and maybe this is the one. I don’t need W10 compatibility as I will never upgrade to that thing.
How about USB solutions? Less
How about USB solutions? Less EMI outside of the case and also most of them are driverless.

Just got an Asus Essence STX II, using it with Sennheiser HD650’s. Everything sounds amazing and this is coming from a xonar d2, which was really nice as well.
Onboard sound is complete rubbish in comparison but probably sounds good if you are using cheap speakers/headphones and have never heard a decent dedicated audio card before.
Don’t mean to have a go or anything, just saying from experience with all of the above. 🙂

“OPAMPs which can can be removed and swapped with another to change the sound”
Well, they can be removed and swapped to change your wallet balance. If changing the op-amps changes the output then you’ve either purchased faulty op-amps or ones with the wrong specifications.

If you want pure audio from a PC, you have to use digital output to an external, shielded DAC (receiver/AVR). Period, end of issue.
