The Stagefright media player vulnerability on Android powered Nexus devices which allowed the possibility of running remotely execute code via an MMS containing a specially crafted media file. It made headlines everywhere even though it is incredibly unlikely the bug was ever used in an attack. Regardless, you no longer need to worry as Google has crafted a patch and has released it to the carriers. You should keep an eye out this week and next for the update and if you do not see it apply you should reach out to your carrier. More at The Inquirer.

What about the millions of
What about the millions of devices in use that are no longer receiving updates? Most android smartphones lose support after 12-18 months, with some of the more entry level devices, only having 6 months of support.

The problem still exists, just because Google has made a patch doesn’t mean anyone if going to get it. From what I know you need a software update to get the patch and 90% of mobile devices running Android aren’t even on the latest version and most manufacturers aren’t going to spend the money to upgrade a two year old device.
yeah this issue is not even
yeah this issue is not even close to being solved.. im on kitkat 4.4.4 an i have no intentions of running any updates as this will bump my version to 5.0.1 and give me about half the battery life on my phone.(tried it, and flashed the phone back to the older version)
They need to release a tool that can be executed on any phone and remove the offending software or code.
