Crono Labs of Galway, Ireland is a startup that hopes to “declutter your desk” with their C1 Computer Case, a unique enclosure that allows you to mount a VESA compliant monitor to the case itself, creating your own all-in-one system.
The C1 is a slim micro-ATX enclosure with support for standard ATX power supplies and graphics cards up to 10.5”, and it sits on a stand that looks like that of a standard monitor.
Here’s a list of compatible components from Crono Labs:
- mATX or ITX motherboard
- ATX PSU
- Two 3.5″ drives
- Two 2.5″ drives
- GPU’s up to 10.5″
- Low profile CPU coolers
- Four 120mm fans
- Water Cooling: 1X 120mm cooler and 1X 240mm cooler can be used, at the same time. Water coolers will not fit if an mATX motherboard is used
The Indiegogo page is now up, and with a modest goal of $2000 they hope to create their initial prototypes before moving to the next phase of funding for production. It’s an interesting concept, and it looks like they have thought this design through with some nice touches:
- A short VGA, HDMI and branching power cable come with the case for reduced cable clutter. Less mess, less stress.
- Rotated motherboard points the IO ports downwards for tidier cables. The motherboard is also raised up into the case to allow cables to go beneath it.
- Carry handle makes transporting the case easy, from desk to desk or room to room.
- The case has a very small footprint, leaving you with a much more pleasing work area, for all that important stuff you do.
The idea of creating a portable all-in-one type system is appealing for the space-constrained or for LAN gaming, and the ability to use full-sized components would allow for a more powerful, and lower cost, build. What do you think of this design?
There are rumors about
There are rumors about Maxwell and fake support for async shaders? Any news? No? Ignore it? OK. All big publications are ignoring it anyway. It’s not something important anyway. Like for example a little noise from the first few Fury X cards which could lead their owners to the mad house, or the lack of a WHQL stamp on AMD drivers, which could lead to a PC’s explosion.
I personally don’t know how
I personally don’t know how to make a tin foil hat, but you seem to be a major distributor.

lol “fake” support for asynchronous shaders. The internet really is so entitled.
No, there is no “fake” support for async shaders. AMD has an advantageous implementation where they can carry out twice as many queues simultaneously on GCN cards (64 vs 32) as on Maxwell cards.
The Maxwell cards in a homebrew test which you can find on r/Nvidia are actually faster than AMD cards when carrying out 31 or less lists (960 beats out a 390X).
Nvidia is quite rightly a bit peeved that this first DX12 benchmark doesn’t work so well with their cards and everyone is taking this test as proof that the cards are terrible for DX12 and that this one benchmark invalidates the cards performance.
All tech reviewers have been saying since this benchmark dropped that this is just one example of DX12 performance, that it is not indicative of general DX12 performance and we could quite easily see a flip in performance under another engine.
And exploding PCs? Lord I don’t actually know why I replied to this comment.
they need to have amd as an
they need to have amd as an option and add display port to it for all monitor types to work. and I would like to see atx offered too.
They’re selling a case, man.
They’re selling a case, man. You can put whatever card you want as long as it fits.
Looks like a nice idea, but I
Looks like a nice idea, but I have a feeling the final price is going to be too high.
Doing regular cleaning of the internals will be more of a pita as well.

Hi there,
I’m a part of the Crono Labs team working on the case 🙂 We’re hoping to keep the final price at $100, worst case (heh) scenario is it goes up to $150.
As for cleaning, we’re keeping that a simple as possible by keeping the amount of thumbscrews needed to open the case o a minimum.
I like it. It’s not perfect,

Hi collie,
I’m a part of the Crono Labs team. Thanks for the feedback! Hopefully it’ll be that bit closer to perfect after we test the prototypes 🙂
the way it looks to me is
the way it looks to me is that a lot of monitors will die the heat death of the molten guts, if the powerhouse of a pc behind it will make them cosy and warm.
i could be wrong but, the back of the system / motherboard and stuff faces the screens back. the screen sends off heat, the motherboards back sends off heat and then there is only a small gap for “no” airflow.
besides of that concern, a long term concern! finally we have the fattens of a crt screen back, by putting the pc from under the table behind the screen, to simulate the phatty crt screen.
overlay your os with a scanline fx pls!!!!
conclusion, the case is bullsh…
YUCK.
Rather see a gtx 980m
YUCK.
Rather see a gtx 980m in a Zbox that i can mount to the back of the monitor. Ill pay the 100$ extra for it being a zbox.
So if they need the money to
So if they need the money to churn out prototypes how do they expect to have money left over to fulfill “rewards”? Presuming they don’t even have a manufacturer squared away nor can they even estimate costs, this sounds like a very very bad kickstarter.

Hi Bri,
I’m part of the Crono Labs team 🙂
As stated in our campaign, we will be running a follow-up campaign to fulfill rewards. People who have chosen the $100 tier will automatically be added as a backer to the 2nd campaign.
We have manufacturing quotes that our goal can cover, however as we are trying to find the best option, we have not finalized our choice.
Even if it’s made of
Even if it’s made of adamantium, that leg’s gonna crumble. FAIL.

Seems like a more expensive version of those ergotron monitor+ case stands where you see the slip PC tower strapped to the back of the monitor stand http://i.imgur.com/WJeRJWf.jpg
and http://i.imgur.com/s6wzUoD.jpg
The important part that
The important part that seemed to have gotten missed is that the stand is for the case. The monitor is added after. The weight of the monitor will add load balancing to the stand, but in all is secondary to the design. The USB ports in the stand are a great touch, and as with alot of indegogo stuff, the designers really sat and thought through the useful features and design implementation. It will be interesting to see if this thing turns into a Weeble Wobble fully loaded, but I dont think it will as long as the stand is mounted to something more frame like than the side of the case.
