Acer has expanded their Predator gaming monitor lineup with two new 27-inch displays featuring NVIDIA G-Sync technology.
The Acer Predator XB271HU
First up is the XB271HU:
"The new Predator XB271HU touts a zero-frame edge-to-edge design with a WQHD (2560 x 1440) IPS panel that supports 100% of the sRGB color gamut as well as NVIDIA® ULMB™ technology(1) to reduce motion blur by delivering sharp edges in fast-paced gaming environments. It has a fast 4ms gray to gray response time, 350 cd/m2 brightness and up to a supercharged 165Hz overclocking refresh rate that speeds up the frames per second for delivering ultra-smooth gameplay."
And if WQHD resolution just isn't enough, there is also a 4K/UHD option, model XB271HK:
"The 27-inch Acer Predator XB271HK touts spectacular picture quality with a 4K UHD (3840×2160@60Hz) panel boasting 300 cd/m2 brightness and 1.07 billion colors. This stunning monitor also provides a high 100 percent sRGB color accuracy and reproduction.
Rendering fast-moving actions and dramatic transitions without smearing or ghosting, the Acer Predator XB271HK’s IPS display offers a quick 4ms response. It also provides wide viewing angles with accurate colors up to 178 degrees horizontally and vertically."
The monitors feature Acer’s GameView technology, “which allows gamers to swiftly toggle between three customizable display profiles to tweak settings in-game without the need to navigate through an OSD menu”, dark boost black level adjustment, and Acer’s Eye Protect Technology “with flicker-less, blue-light filter, ComfyView and low-dimming technologies to help safeguard the eyes from blue light emissions and decrease eye fatigue during long gaming sessions”.
The stands on the new Predator XB1 monitors feature tilt, pivot, and height adjustment, and the monitors are VESA compliant. Connectivity consists of HDMI, DisplayPort v1.2 and a 4-port USB 3.0 hub, with sound provided by 2W stereo speakers.
The Acer Predator XB271HK
The Predator XB1 Series monitors will be available this month, and the MSRP’s are $799 for the Predator XB271HU, and $899 for the Predator XB271HK.

It looks like someone’s got butthurt because of the PG279Q’s appearance on the market.
Also, holy shit those legs look RETARDEDLY bad, it’s like they’re made of Lego, or something.
Yeah those legs are hideous.
Yeah those legs are hideous. When are companies going to learn that not every gamer wants the ridiculous flashiness. At least on the swift you can turn off the annoying red light on the base.
I actually didn’t know that.

Think they look bad in pics? They’re even worse in person. Really cheap looking plastic. If they we’re milled out of steel or aluminum it would be a different story, but this plastic looks like a toy in person.

interesting. I’d like to see a review of the XB271HU. I’m curious if the build quality is any better.
Forget the aggressive styling
Forget the aggressive styling of the legs, I think the most important thing about the aesthetics is did they put that cheap-ass-toy-looking-glossy finish on the bezels again?

Say what you will about Acer
Say what you will about Acer but they are at least competing seriously with ROG. Big step up from XB0 in terms of aesthetics.
just HOW stupid do the market
just HOW stupid do the market teams at these various companies think we are?? honestly?? I mean come on! “zero-frame-edge-to-egde design”?? Give. Me. A. Break.
zero frame looks a little more something like this:

With the Pg279q being a
With the Pg279q being a dissapointment for those who already got it in Europe (the light bleed and ips glow is terrible apparently on a lot of units) this acer monitor looks to be my last hope. With how good the x34 seems to many users, I’m hopefull the quality will be good!
and u cant wait… say 6-8
and u cant wait… say 6-8 months. when the monitor (let alone the gpus that drive them) landscape has matured??
pascal, along with the monitors that you really want (ie gsync capable with refresh rates that actually make it worthwhile) are not to far away in the future.
obviously evry one is different. but unless it was an emergency, the LAST things i would consider purchasing at this point in time would be a gpu or monitor. what is going to be available in the next half year or so is going to be a substantial improvement over what is available right now. And we most likely wont see a similar jump in performance for the following 3-4 years. so, when u factor ‘value/performance for u money’, buying a gpu or monitor right now, just doesnt make sense. wait a little bit, and im sure youll be rewarded. patience is a virtue! XD
I’m now on a pc with a gtx
I’m now on a pc with a gtx 260 on a mobo with the pci-e slot defective and an 8 year old monitor making a terrible whine.
That’s why I’m kind of in a hurry! If I’m upgrading, then I’m doing it big!!!
I’m genuinely curious, what
I’m genuinely curious, what monitor improvements over the PG279Q do you expect to see in 8 months? A 27″ 2560×1440 VA panel with higher contrast is the only improvement I could see happening. Higher refresh rates than 144/165 with IPS or VA are unlikely. Even if you did want a VA variant of the Swift at that point, you can just sell it for ~80% retail price at that time and buy the new one.
4K or 3440×1440 panels have software compatibility issues still and OLED monitors of equal quality to the PG279Q will likely be 5 years away.
Please elaborate/link to your
Please elaborate/link to your source on a massive advance in panel quality/capabilities coming in the next six months. This is the first/only place I have heard such a thing.
While I will wait to see what user feedback is, it was my sincere hope that the pg279q and others of this period would represent the matured versions of the apparently hard-to-manufacture-correctly xb270hu and similar (users with good ones love them, but with many users reporting multiple returns of defective units required first.)
something to keep in mind as
something to keep in mind as well was the fact that when the other acer ips panels came out there were a lot of issues with them as well.
I think everyone just needs to chill a bit on getting one of these. Wait a couple of months until they get the QA sorted. Plus you’ll be able to see what is shown at CES.
Unless we have actual
Unless we have actual verified statistics on return rates or a statistically significant sampling of monitors to test backlight bleed on, this comment makes zero sense.
I’ll explain whats actually going on for you. The PG279Q’s reviews have named it the current standard for enthusiast gaming monitors. It will sell a lot. The people that buy it will largely be PC gaming enthusiasts that want the absolute best in a monitor. On average they will be the most able to recognize the slightest issue, be least excepting of issues, and most likely to post about those issues online. None of this reflects the average build quality, IPS glow, and backlight bleed of the PG279Q.
If you need a perfect PG279Q, buy it in a physical store that allows exchanges. Then keep exchanging it till you get a perfect one.
I agree that a lot of people
I agree that a lot of people exagerate, but something like what happened to the xb270hu was truly bad.
As for the reviews, manufacturers cherry pick the monitors they send. We know the monitors can be great, but that doesn’t say anything about the % of bad panels in circulation.
Now, back to the PG279Q. I was expecting some dissapointment, since we are a bunch of picky basterd, but not that many complaint in such a short time.
If I can see the monitor in person, I sure will, but as of right now, I’ll keep my doubt until proven otherwise.

Nov 24 dell’s gsync will be out it should put Rog trash and acer to shame in Qc if they aren’t using same panel we will wait n see what dell brings to table.prey they put garbage company’s like Asus in there place. And makes Rog tax a thing of past.
what are you talking about?
what are you talking about? the dell is available now.
lol OK at the same price for
lol OK at the same price for shit TN panel
Also that backlight bleed
Also that backlight bleed goes away on these panels after some use. Mine was horrid at first and after 5 days of burning it in at full brightness the whole panel evened out and no more bleeding issues.
People feed off each other over in these stupid forums like OC.net and are so quick to judge and returning monitors. Yes i can see dead/stuck pixels and dirt between the film but backlight will/does correct itself over time.
More G-Sync monitors NICE!!!
More G-Sync monitors NICE!!!
I don’t understand the
I don’t understand the marketing of these screens with the aggressive gaming branded aesthetics. I would assume that gamers that can afford such expensive monitors would be older and would prefer a different aesthetic. It would look alright on a VESA stand, but I would never put that monitor stand on my desk.
I ordered 4 of their previous
I ordered 4 of their previous run, all had dust behind the screen or dead pixels, unless I can get assure Quality Control, ill never buy an Acer again.
i got three 1080p acers.
i got three 1080p acers. different class of monitor and pricetag. but im happy with build quality and performance
ur case, sounds more like acer, for what ever reason, loosening the guidelines of the QA and allowing units to ship that otherwise wouldnt, rather than the QA not doing their job. PeoplesWagon anyone??
Read early reviews of ppl who
Read early reviews of ppl who have the Dell apparently there’s no dirt bugs or hair in the monitors received so far and no crap glow or bleeding like stuck pigs. So it might actually be decent waiting my personal one atm. From looks of things it’s already looking good.

The Dell has a TN panel! I won’t buy a TN panel any more, especially not for that price.
