UPDATE: Did you miss today's live stream? No worries! You can get the full rundown of the new Radeon Software Crimson Edition driver and get details on new features like FreeSync Low Frame Rate Compensation, DX9 frame pacing, custom resolutions, and more. Check out the video embed below.
It's nearly time for the holidays to begin but that doesn't mean the hardware and software news train comes to a halt! This week we are hosting AMD in the PC Perspective offices for a live stream to discuss the upcoming release of the new AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition. Earlier in the month we showed you a preview of what changes were coming to the AMD GPU driver and now we are going to not only demo it for you but let the community ask AMD questions directly about it!
And what's a live stream without prizes? AMD has stepped up to the plate to offer up some awesome hardware for those of you that tune in to watch the live stream!

The Vulkan graphics API and
The Vulkan graphics API and Crimson drivers with Steam OS, How far along is the AMD Steam OS support, as well as other Linux OS distros with Crimson and Vulkan. Will AMD be doing any Steam OS based demos with Vulkan to let potential Steam Machine customers gauge AMD hardware with Steam OS/Other Linux based OS’s?
What I would be interested to
What I would be interested to know are;
– Improvements
– Linux Compatibility and DX12
– Clarifications on the rumours about the harmony with AMD & nVidia GPU systems
– Usability for Stereoscopic support and VR support (enabling/disabling), forced when GPU is unable to detect the source as a 3D compliant device.
– Window transparency/opacity support in Windows7,8.1,10
– Forced various refresh rates to different displays
How to proceed if you’d like a special tour of the AMD office in Ontario, Canada? 😉
Your answer is here. Please
Your answer is here. Please look at these slides. Its amazing the changes AMD is doing. http://videocardz.com/57776/amd-launches-radeon-software-crimson-driver
The presentation slides
The presentation slides provide very little details.
I expect the live event to be much more detailed than those with more in-depth details of how-to’s.
Is there a future for HBM
Is there a future for HBM with AMD, will we see a next generation of architecture that will support more than 4GB of HBM? Is there any indication that AMD will be lowering prices on the Nano and Fury X cards to put them back in the for gamers budget they always were so proud to promote? The prices just seem to high for the performance they offer stacking against the other guys offerings that are in a very close price bracket.
Question to ask the AMD
Question to ask the AMD reps:
Will the new drivers include frame multiplication support for below the VRR window of freesync monitors?
Does this extend to the EU

The contest? Yup!

AMD is claiming 20%
AMD is claiming 20% improvement in the Fable Benchmark. Will you retest and let us know? PLease check these slides

Im interested to know if
Im interested to know if crimson will decrease power consumption of the R9 nano and by how much. Will this new GUI and driver allow a cooler operating temperature overall?
How do they feel about the
How do they feel about the mandatory signing up of Nvidia drivers through Nvidia’s Geforce Experience program?
Does AMD plan on following suit in the future?
AMD already officially stated
AMD already officially stated they won’t ask to register to download their drivers.
so what is the software is
so what is the software is trying to solve? i see no UI problems in the old software, so what is this new radeon crimson trying to solve?
compatibility with linux? vulkan? a little more performance gains? live OC?
Can we expect additional
Can we expect additional performance improvements (especially regarding the DX11 CPU overhead) with the new Crimson driver ?
CCC was sort of a nightmare
CCC was sort of a nightmare when using High Contrast mode in Windows. Does Crimson’s new software behave a bit better as far as adhering to Windows themes go? If not, does it at least stay consistent throughout?
Did you guys improve the CPU
Did you guys improve the CPU overhead in DX11? Are we going to see a full changelog? I love changelogs!
Are we looking at overall performance improvements or it’s just a replacement for CCC?
I agree, changelogs are
I agree, changelogs are in-fact useful!

Pretty sure they said NO
Pretty sure they said NO right at the end.
I think I can at least partly
I think I can at least partly answer a couple of the questions posted here already:
Radeon Software Crimson is developed using Qt:(from Wikipedia) “… a cross-platform application framework that is widely used for developing application software that can be run on various software and hardware platforms with little or no change in the underlying codebase, while having the power and speed of native applications.”
What this suggests to me is that there will be performance improvements and as it is cross-platform, we may see some Linux love.
A great article on Crimson can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/nluf6vr
So no more .net CCC, With QT
So no more .net CCC, With QT being the framework for Crimson!
P.S. Unrelated to this article watch out for Dell PC/laptops there is a New SuperFish in town, and even if you remove the root certificate the UEFI/BIOS puts it right back. It’s not Lenovo this time around it’s in Dell’s PC and laptops! Dude you got a SuperFish!

Any plans for FuryX to get

Exactly 30 minutes too early
Exactly 30 minutes too early for me. Oh well, I could have used that 380 for a friend… 🙁
What I would like to see is
What I would like to see is drivers which are not so large of a download. In the past drivers were measured in megabytes not gigabytes.
I don’t think I have yet seen
I don’t think I have yet seen an AMD driver package over a gigabyte. In fact, the latest drivers from AMD are 281 and 301 megabytes.
Also, Nvidia’s latest WHQL
Also, Nvidia’s latest WHQL drivers (359.00 as of the moment I’m writing this) are 289 megabytes – a few megabytes larger than AMD’s last WHQL drivers.
The current drivers are still
The current drivers are still in megabytes. I think the latest one is around 308 megabytes, give or take a few. I’ve been using them since 2012 when I got my AMD card, never seen a driver in the gigabytes size.
-Will Crimson support “dual
-Will Crimson support “dual graphics” mode with AMD APUs?
-Will Crimson actually notify users when new driver updates are available? (CCC never notified me of anything)
-Will new driver updates install in a simplified manner (i.e. 1 button press / automatic)?
That also depends on what the
That also depends on what the OEM’s decide with their OEM specific Graphics drivers, especially for laptops. Gaming Rig builders have it so good for driver updates from the devices ODM’s and the motherboard makers, but with laptop users it’s the luck of the draw for driver updates from OEMs.
– Will the new drivers be
– Will the new drivers be properly stable and compatible with the older gpu’s like r9 280x or will they focus on the current lineup for improvements ?
will AMD implement adaptive
will AMD implement adaptive vsync? (vsync on when performance hits target, auto vsync off when cannot, like Nvidia and the consoles can do)
is crimson supporting pre GCN, WDDM 1.3 DX11 Radeons? (like the latest Catalyst does for the HD5000/6000 series) if yes, will it have features that currently GCN cards have and pre GCN don’t without obvious technical limitations (like the framerate cap thing)
will AMD release some kind of legacy driver with working catalyst for windows 10? (like for an HD 4800, windows update drivers work but don’t have CCC, while Nvidia DX10 cards have a control panel working from windows update drivers)
oh and I agree with another post, a checkbox for triple buffering (on fullscreen exclusive DX, windowed seems to force it by default) would be great.
RadeonPro supports “Dynamic
RadeonPro supports “Dynamic VSYNC” (and “HALF Dynamic VSYNC”) which works the same as NVidia’s solution. Not sure about the new Crimson drivers though.
