That's right folks, the official AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 15.12 has just launched for you to install. This includes the fixes for fan speeds when you are using AMD Overdrive, your settings will stick and the fans will revert to normal after you go back to the desktop from an intense gaming session. There are multiple fixes for Star Wars Battlefront, Fallout 4 and several GUI fixes within the software itself. As always there are still a few kinks being worked out but overall it is worth popping over to AMD to grab the new driver. You should also have less issues upgrading from within Crimson after this update as well.
To be fair the fan speed
To be fair the fan speed issue was fixed within 48 hours of the news breaking on the web. While it doesn’t explicitly say it this article can be read as if it was just now fixed.
Fix applied on November 30th

Come one now this is PCPer.

PCPER is pretty fair and
PCPER is pretty fair and investigates many issues quite deeply. Ryan was recently at an AMD event, so is there some point in the “this is PCPER” comment?
I mean, if you think they aren’t reporting correctly why even be here?
Right, from the same self
Right, from the same self declared “professionals” who didn’t spot the 3.5 Gb issue on the 970… And months after, they all jumped on the bandwagon… Right, very quick to identify issues indeed…
If one were biased and making
If one were biased and making bizarre assumptions, yes you could read this news as some sort of rabid attack on AMD.
If I already have crimson
If I already have crimson 15.11 or 15.11.1, and I’ve taken some time to setup some custom profiles for a few games, how do I migrate those profiles over to 15.12? Meaning, I don’t want to have to go through the trouble of setting up those profiles again after installing 15.12. If anyone has a link or some info, please share.
Interesting question, I don’t
Interesting question, I don't tend to set up specific profiles for games … or at least I haven't yet. I would suspect that updating from within Crimson should keep your profiles intact.
The problem is that doing
The problem is that doing “upgrade” from within crimson does not upgrade it from 15.11/15.11.1 to 15.12. I’ve tried that a couple of times and it says that the software is up to date, even though I have 15.11/15.11.1 – I’ve tried doing the upgrade from both versions to 15.12 and get same result both times.
So, the only way I know of to update to 15.12 is to uninstall the version I have and then install 15.12. I already found out that by going from 15.11 to 15.11.1 does not save any game profile settings and I don’t see a setting that allows you to export or save it for an upgrade. Which is why I asked since sometimes features are hidden(or so obvious) that I wouldn’t find it. I thought maybe it is because of going to a beta version is why it didn’t save.
As far as saving game profiles, I’ve got a 7970, and while it is a really good card for 1080, some games needs extra ‘oomph’ to run maxed out at 1080 and an OC would be too much overkill for other games, and some games lack options to set AA(like OG borderlands), and so on and so on. it just makes it a lot more convenient to have profiles, and I’ll add more as time goes on, but I really don’t want to have to readd them when doing an upgrade, I just want to do the install and start gaming, not editing profiles again. I love the idea of game specific profiles, maybe an oversight for not having an export feature. Might be worth looking at the install files to figure out of indeed the profile settings are sometihng that can be copy/pasted back after an upgrade… hmmmm
Which brings up another question. When doing an upgrade of crimson, when the built-in “upgrade” doesn’t recognize that there is a new version available, does simply doing an uninstall suffice, or does the AMD uninstall utility need to be ran as well?
I’m on the road for a while
I'm on the road for a while so I can't get at my main rig to update. Once I am back home I will play around and see what I can find out. I would hope that you would not need to use their uninstall utility to upgrade, we will keep an eye out for info.
Ok, so it’s been a few days
Ok, so it’s been a few days and today I turned my pc on and the Radeon software prompted me to upgrade itself. And after doing it, remember to uncheck the raptr app during the upgrade, my profiles migrated.
On a side note, When I had 15.11 or 15.11.1, I noticed that the clockspeed while just on the desktop would stay at about 500mhz after setting up an OC on a game. Now that Radeon upgraded itself to 15.12, the clockspeeds while on the desktop are back to normal, seems AMD fixed that issue too.
Good to hear, I still have to
Good to hear, I still have to try it.
Where are the fixes for the
Where are the fixes for the legacy Crimson driver? Why those game profiles still do not work?
What really is the point in having a game profile in the driver panel when those overdrive settings i made for each game are not applied when i start the game?
AMD leaves it´s former, from now on called legacy customers with broken features and not working driver options? WTF?
I know, right? I mean,
I know, right? I mean, Nvidia never ever “leaves its former, from now on called legacy customers” with “broken features” and “not-working driver options”. This is why I could still slap in my old 8800GT, install the newest Nvidia graphics drivers, use all the features and options, and just dive right into gaming without a second thought. And thanks to those miracle Nvidia drivers, that old 8800GT can run GTA-V like nobody’s business.
AMD is now even rebranding
AMD is now even rebranding drivers…LOL
I bet you’ve been all over
I bet you’ve been all over the comment threads today, complaining about Nvidia rebranding a Fermi GPU AND a Kepler GPU into the GT 930 alongside a Maxwell GPU, right? Right??
Still a joke….
