Last week, Microsoft announced that the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows now supports Windows 7 and 8.x. Previously, the dongle would only work on Windows 10, which meant that other operating systems required Xbox One controllers to be wired.
This does not mean that all functionality will be available on Windows 7 and 8.x, though. The Xbox Accessories app is required to manage profiles and update firmware without an Xbox One console. As far as I can tell, that will continue to be the case. If you have an Xbox One console, and don't mind managing the controllers there, then this wireless adapter might be for you. If you have don't have an Xbox One console, Windows 10, or an existing Xbox One controller, then you may want to reconsider getting an Xbox One controller at all. If you do, then you can turn it wireless, now even on Windows 7 and 8.x.
The Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows has been out for a couple of months.
Buy the steam controller.
Buy the steam controller. Valve needs to be rewarded for their innovation in a stagnate sector of the industry. Plus, its just a superior input device. Some of the recent updates that Valve has already made to their ‘just released’ controller, speaks volumes. If ur a pc gamer, do urself a favor and buy the steam controller. I dont think many would regret it…
If u really must have a more traditional (ie outdated) style controller, go for the 360. Tried and true.
But it sucks……
But it sucks……
It’s only innovation is
It’s only innovation is making a small subset of games more couch friendly but still not equal to a mouse and keyboard. That’s not a reason to buy the steam controller over an xbox one controller.
rofl. way to contradict
rofl. way to contradict urself there guy. why are u bringing up m&k? especially if ur against the steam controller?? lol. whatever you do with your life, dont become litigator. ur critical thinking skillz are worse than my grammar. i love u 😉
I brought up mouse and
I brought up mouse and keyboard because the steam controller’s purpose is to allow traditionally mouse and keyboard games to be played while sitting on a couch with a controller. So mouse and keyboard is literally what you should be comparing the steam controller to.
The games that are better suited to a gamepad on PC are still better played with an xbox 360 gamepad since it’s the default controller PC games are designed for.
nah i agree with what u say.
nah i agree with what u say. its just semantics. this a discussion between controllers. using ‘m&k’ as evidence, for lack of a better word, only gives credence to the steam controller over anything else.
ur first paragraph is contradictory again btw. i think there is a saying for situations like this.. apples n oranges? i dont think anyone, for a second, felt the steam controller was supposed to replace the m&k.
I am very interested in the
I am very interested in the Steam controller and I’m really looking forward to a review of it by a site that I have some respect for. *cough* 😉
Ryan did an early impressions
Ryan did an early impressions video back in October. I was planning to do a more analytical benchmark of it and the Xbox One Elite Controller. Didn't get a chance to finish the Elite Controller review before the Holidays and I couldn't get the Steam Controller yet.
Still plan to do it, but it would unfortunately have to be in the new year. Even made a UE4 game that records button and trigger presses (it's a mod of First Person Shooter template).
I will wait. 🙂
I will wait. 🙂
*cough cough* cough*… wow,
*cough cough* cough*… wow, excuse me. guess its going around… 😀
I wonder how long it will be
I wonder how long it will be until someone gets this to work with Steam Link?
Even when someone does, the
Even when someone does, the experience will still be subpar because of the latency of streaming the controller back to the host pc. I know this because I’ve got a Link and I’ve found this out first hand.
DON’T connect any controller to the Link to play games. Use it to start up the Link, after the Link is paired up with your PC for Steam, then reconnect the controller to your PC to play games. It makes a big difference.
