Remember that FM2+ refresh which Josh informed you about back in March? The APUs have started arriving on test benches and can be benchmarked independently to see what this ~$100 processor and the Wraith cooler are capable of. Neoseeker compares the new 880K against the older FX-4350 in a long series of benchmarks which show the 880K to be the better part in most cases. There are some interesting exceptions to this, in which the FX-4350's slightly higher frequency allows it to pull ahead by a small margin so there are cases where the less expensive chip would make sense. Read the full review to see which chip makes more sense for you.
"Today we take a look at the AMD Athlon X4 880K, a quad-core FM2+ processor with 4.0/4.2GHz base/Turbo clocks and unlocked multiplier priced at under $100 USD. It's designed for enthusiasts on a budget looking for the fastest multi-core Athlon processor yet without any integrated GPU to add to the cost. It even shares the 95W TDP of AMD's higher-end APUs for optimized power consumption that further leads to more overclocking headroom."

You’re going to be the first one up against the wall when the peasants revolt, although I personally would rather bring back the guillotine.

As soon as someone makes cheaper, less powerful, higher tdp weapons in our price range we will rize up against you! PEASANT REVOLUTION FOREVER!!!!!!!
The cheapest quad core Intel
The cheapest quad core Intel part seems to be about $185, so this is a good deal for a low cost machine. I still generally don’t recommend these to my friends due to the age of the platform. Most of them have had $200 to $300 for the CPU budget anyway, so this wouldn’t even have been a consideration. The power consumption is probably a bit higher than Intel equivalents. The base and turbo frequencies are not very far apart. There is probably little difference in actual gaming performance though, due to the video card being the bottleneck most of the time.
The way the mentality normaly
The way the mentality normaly goes, “It’s a dedicated gaming rig, every $5 I can save on cpu is $5 more gpu” Once you count in how cheap some top quality FM2+ MoBos are, that can be the difference of 1080p on low to 1080p on ultra.
I build the shit out of 860k
I build the shit out of 860k rigs, pair it with a sapphire nitro R9 380
Runs fantastic.
Now that the 880k is here the 860k will drop farther in price.. JOY JOY JOY.. its all good news for gamers.
Newegg had the 860k down to
Newegg had the 860k down to $59.99 yesterday.
woooooooooahh so its already
woooooooooahh so its already dropping that fast, last i picked up last week was 72?.. they also seem to have a wraith cooler option for the 860k now thats 9.00 higher in price.
but jesus 59.00 buy buy buy buy!!!!!!!!!!

The FX-6300 is usually $85 on
The FX-6300 is usually $85 on sale to $100 everyday and it’s a snap to overclock to 5GHz fairly easily with just an air cooler. Hella bargain for under $100.
Too Bad AMD could not have
Too Bad AMD could not have made dual socket motherboards for these SKUs those are some Low prices! And there will be even better deals once the FM4 SKUs start to ship. The bargain Bins will be full of these deals for a while at least.
I’ve been looking at a
I’ve been looking at a low-cost build and I agree, the FX-6300 is a sweet spot in price/performance, especially since it can be easily overclocked.
yea but AM3+ boards run 20 to
yea but AM3+ boards run 20 to 30 higher then the FM2+ ones
And you can’t skimp on a board with a 125watt+ part.
20 to 30 what(?) double
20 to 30 what(?) double decker busses, furlongs, Monow-brows of a troll. What metric are you talking about? Come on — WTF get some standardized metric!
Yeah dumbfuck, but with the
Yeah dumbfuck, but with the WORST chipset ever fucking made. Also, my $58 Pentium 20th Annv. gets BETTER frames than GAYMD’s FX6,’s…. They are the shittiest FUCKING chips ever, only poor faggot peasants like you would Rock that shit.
Pentium G3258 was clearly
Pentium G3258 was clearly superior, in 2014. Since then, we’ve had a growing list of games designed to utilize at least four cores, which puts the dual-core, non hyper-threaded pentiums below minimum spec. Intel and their user base have been pretty good at creating work-arounds, but anything that can’t handle four threads is no longer a realistic choice for building a new computer. (Ask the pentium users who spent opening day for Star Wars Battlefront staring at black screens about how awesome their frame rates were…)
uh yea QUAD or don’t
uh yea QUAD or don’t bother.
RIP G3258
LOL I loved that comment.
LOL I loved that comment. Kinda like my buddy that got pissed off at me because he could not get his g3258 to run farcry 4 on the day he finished his build. I told him to buy at least a 4 core processor and he had the same problem with star wars. Lucky for him the LGA-1055 has options for him in the future. Yea blank black screens are really cool in the gaming world.

Though I’m supportive of AMD,
Though I’m supportive of AMD, and have FX8350 along with R9290x and GTX 680, right now AMD has nothing really to offer in the CPU realm.
Athlon X4 845, if it would be unlocked with its updated Excavator cores would be the CPU to choose. But AMD decided to lock it. Guess they are simply waiting for AM4 to release them.
If anyone now would be asking me what to get. Intel if you can afford them. Otherwise wait till AM4 comes out in the next few months with the Excavator APUs.
Current platforms (AM3+ and FM2+) lack too many features.
some people don’t have
some people don’t have systems at all and want to game NOW, not in a few months.
If you already have a capable rig sure wait… but if not no reason not to jump on a low cost FM2+ build, pair it with a decent GPU and you will get your monies worth.
FM2+ are cheap enough to
FM2+ are cheap enough to build…….run, and wait till the new stuff prices settle and rebuild.
Its not like you are investing in some $200.00+ chip
why go 845 when they just dropped the 880k , faster is faster.
Yea, I have used the 860k in
Yea, I have used the 860k in previous builds for my friends and so far I have had zero complaints. I’m going to start using the 880k just to see if it overclocks higher then the 860k. I have this feeling that the 880k chips are the exact same as the 860k just with a higher freq and boost clock. I would not expect a 880k to overclock much better the a 860k but for 75$ to 100$ you cannot go wrong. My console friends are all wanting pc’s now that they have seen the performance! Heck, when I mention pc gaming to my console friends they are immediately turned off by the idea of Mouse & Keyboard but quickly turned around when you mention a pc will support just about any console controller.
i have gpu asus r7 265 2gb
i have gpu asus r7 265 2gb what is best for me amd athlon x4 880k or amd a10 7890k Is it benefited from integret graphique cart of a10 7890k please helpe me please
Mate, the Athlon x4 880k is
Mate, the Athlon x4 880k is the right choice for you. The A10 7890k is more expensive and it has the same performance (they are the same chip).
The only difference is that the 7890k has integrated graphics.
Beside, you can’t use your dedicated graphic card with the 7890k for dual graphics. Only R7 250 and R7 240 works for dual graphics.
Cheers
I just setup 880K with RX470,
I just setup 880K with RX470, A88m-g/3.1 Mobo and 8gb 2133Ghz of ram….Resident evil 7 and Farcry primal has no problem on ultra runs very smooth on 1080p.
Well Stop looking at FPS and start playing games, u will enjoy more.
I never seen a 100FPS and 60FPS will effect gaming.
