Nvidia needs to try going
Nvidia needs to try going with a different naming scheme, it would allow for more effective marketing.
For example, if they released the next GPU as the Nvidia Furry X

Other than that, we are still a many years away from useful VR. We will need to wait until GPUs achieve around 20-30 times the performance of an overclocked GTX 980 ti.
With VR, people want more than nintendo wii style graphics, as a bare minimum, we need graphics along the lines of some of the higher end cryengine 3 visuals, but on the scale of a game like the division (but with a longer view distance) with a minimum frame rate of 90FPS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OI7yP0ANY70

Ken – best wishes with all
Ken – best wishes with all future endeavors! I always enjoyed you adding to the webcast conversation especially at conventions. Make sure you keep schooling Ryan when he missteps talking about technical specifications for new products 😉
With the rumored PS4 chip,
With the rumored PS4 chip, the CPU cores go from 1.6 GHz to 2.1 GHz. That is 500 MHz, not 300. If it is still 28 nm then that is a significant increase. If it is 14 nm, then it may still be a relatively good increase. Most cellphone CPUs clock in that range. With a Broadwell core only being 10 to 12 mm2, a Jaguar core is probably absolutely tiny on 14 nm. It would be thermally limited, I would think. Anyway, I would expect that this is an updated 14 nm part. It makes a lot sense to reuse parts that are already being developed. They may use versions of the same hardware for the Nintendo NX, the Sony PS Neo, and maybe an updated Xbox. I kind of expected this a long time ago since the move from 28 nm to 14 nm would give the new Nintendo console much more powerful hardware than the current consoles. Sony and Microsoft would not want to leave there consoles so far behind.
Allyn your wrong. The new
Allyn your wrong. The new iPad Pro does not have more ram then the iPad Air 2. They both have 2 gig of ram. Now the 12.9′ iPad Pro has 4 gig of ram.
2 GB is not enough memory if
2 GB is not enough memory if graphics software uses plenty of RAM. Those graphics files can have many levels for working down images, and the Images with high color depth can themselves take up loads of memory. No “PRO” tablet should have any less than 4 GB of memeoy, and more memory would be even better. Apple does not have a real Pro tablet until Apple get a tablet that can run OSX, and not iOS!
It’s surprising to hear how
It’s surprising to hear how little the entire PCPer crew knows about gaming laptops, and the mobile GPU options.
The 970m is not equal to or less than the desktop 960.
The desktop 960 is 1024:64:32 @1127/1178MHz with 112GB/s memory bandwidth.
The 970m is 1280:80:48 @924/993MHz with 120GB/s memory bandwidth.
The colon-separated values are shaders:texture units:ROPs.
The rough shader comparison (multiply shader by clock) between the two is 1.15-1.2 (960) vs 1.18-1.27 (970m). There shouldn’t be any (or at least hardly any) cases where the 960 is faster than the 970m; the 970m should always be slightly faster.
Some might argue that the 960 will overclock better, but the 970m will also overclock. Due to the greater number of shaders and wider memory bus, the 970m even gets a bigger boost per MHz than the 960 does.
Anyway…
For 1080 gaming, especially when paired with a G-Sync display, the 970m is an excellent choice.
