Grand Theft Auto V is definitely a game that could use some help from AMD in the CrossFire department – we see HUGE frame time swings throughout the benchmark. This issue results in a stuttery mess that is visible in the data above. Note that the two GTX 980 Ti cards in SLI do not exhibit the same behavior.

Nothing really changes at 4K; the frame time variance in CF only gets worse. Even though the average frame rate of the GTX 980 Ti SLI configuration is only 34% faster, the experience is a night and day difference.

2560×1440 +0% +50% +6% -13%
3840×2160 -2% +33% -5% -34%

This table presents the above data in a more basic way, focusing only on the average FPS, so keep that in mind.
