After the live streamed event announcing the GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070, Allyn and I spent a few minutes this afternoon going over the information as it was provided, discussing our excitement about the product and coming to grips with what in the world a "Founder's Edition" even is.
If you haven't yet done so, check out Scott's summary post on the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 specs right here.
This type of review/preview
This type of review/preview is cringe worthy. Especially the part where both Ryan and Allyn get all gitty about marketing slides on the website with no benchmark information on the test. Its SO IMPRESSIVE!!!
Its not launching at $599 its $699.
I was told from someone there it does this and that.
Marketing +3
PCPerspective -3
Its funny at the end. We don’t have a driver so its a paper weight.
Calm yourself, little one.
Calm yourself, little one. Check back in a few days, it will all be ironed out.
don’t worry he’ll check back
don’t worry he’ll check back but you wont be able to tell its him ;}
Sorry but aren’t you guys the
Sorry but aren’t you guys the ones that are suppose to be calm. You and Allyn are always reiterating how you need to duplicate results in-house before you can report on them.
You guys set the bar for yourself. I’m just commenting on the results you display.
Okay, Ryan and Allyn are
Okay, Ryan and Allyn are human and they are allowed to be excited over hardware. If they were not excited and interested in computer hardware, they would not be doing this job!
Do you really want to watch a video hosted by emotionless robots? Others have already covered the specifications and other aspects of this launch in text form if that is your cup of tea.
Are you saying people that
Are you saying people that didn’t get excited over the marketing material aren’t human. They are several youtube videos of people who attended the event that didn’t express that much excitement at the event itself or even the very same marketing material in question. Just exactly which one of those are the emotionless robots?
I am saying that I am tired
I am saying that I am tired of the constant accusationa of bias (aka being biosed :p). It is a preview and not a full review which Ryan said at the very start of the video. They are severely limited on what the are allowed to say because of NDAs so of course the only benchmarks they can show have been approved by Nvidia. And being a preview where they cant dive into performance much of course they are going to have and want to share their opinions on the card (opinions on card and prive being one of the few things they can share heh). They sre allowed to be excited about it the same way others can choose to not be excited about the new hardware. I did not say people have to be excited just that they can be if thats's how they really feel about it. Having an opinopn does not mean they are going to pull some unethical shit and write a biased review to mislead our readers. We are one of the few independent tech sites left and without our readers we are nothing.
Sigh at least wait for the full review being being dissappointed in us is all heheh.
Accusations of being bias is
Accusations of being bias is only fueled by Ryan and Allyn themselves. You blame there readers for pointing out inconsistencies and favoritism in there reviews. There excuses last time was he was tired and had a vacation planned behind the reasoning he only used gameworks game. So there was a backlash.
No one ever said to break NDA so I’m not sure where this notion comes from. There is a difference of presenting marketing material as such and another of giving it credibility without verification. Its well known that the NDA lift on the 17th.
If your so tired of the bias accusations don’t blame the readers for pointing it out. Just like Ryan and Allyn say its important for them to point out issues so they can fix. The readers are doing the same thing and you all get upset about it.
Double standards when it comes to yourselves
I just hate how you’re not
I just hate how you’re not calling out NVIDIA for this bullshit pricing scheme. They aren’t pricing their reference designs higher to help anyone but themselves, which is fine, but lets not act let they are throwing us a bone by doing so. The only cards that will be $599 will be the shitty plastic blower cards with no overclock. Any decent card with a better cooler is going to cost over $699.
The early Bird gets the shaft
The early Bird gets the shaft when it comes to any new GPU
micro-architecture’s release, especially when that new micro-architecture comes with a fab process node shrink in addition to some newer GPU micro-architectures from both of the big players. So some of that high initial cost is going towards R&D and maybe some cushioning the GPU makers’ wallets for some future price wars. Thanks to you early Birds for taking the early dive for all of us deal shoppers who will galdly wait for some of your early extra dosh to make it easier for the GPU makers to have those price wars a little later on!
I think you got ansel a bit
I think you got ansel a bit wrong. As far as I understood it and it was even mentioned in the live presentation it’s not part of the driver but part of the gameworks development tools.
So it is not something that will just work unless the gamedevelopers include it.
Looks like someone has never
Looks like someone has never heard of an NDA. They cant release benchmarks until the NDA is lifted. I wouldn’t be surprised if they aren’t going through their benchmark suite right now and writing their review in preparation of the NDA lift.
This is the standard process of tech reviews.
The video is much appreciated and a good summary for this release.
(ding ding ding) We have a
(ding ding ding) We have a winner!!
Yes. As with other industries (video games come to mind), previews are often permitted before full reviews can be published. In this case performance numbers would also fall under embargo.
This is the case with every site that covers PC hardware. And every YouTube channel. Everywhere on Earth.
What would happen,
What would happen, hypothetically, if someone did release information before the NDA is lifted? Does nvidia sue, or do they just blacklist you for future events?
YOU KNOW WHAT IS CRINGE
YOU KNOW WHAT IS CRINGE WORTHY YOU FUCKING PEASANT FUCK? THE LEVEL OF PATHETIC, SAD, LOW ENERGY, YOU BRING TO THE WORLD.
PEOPLE LIKE YOU SHOULD BE ROUNDED UP AND HERDED TO THE GAS CHAMBER. I BET YOU ARE A JEW. HITLER SHOULD HAVE FINISHED WHAT HE STARTED, BUT SOON TRUMP WILL PICKUP AND CARRY THE TORCH, AND YOU STUPID, POOR, PEASANTS WILL GET WHAT IS COMING TO YOU.
POOR PEOPLE ARE FUCKING FAGGOTS. AND YOU SUCK THE DONKEY DICK BRUH.
FUCK. YOU. FAGGOT.
Uh oh. Somebody didn’t get
Uh oh. Somebody didn’t get their milk and cookies and their naptime, and now they’re all crabby.
Poor little infant.

As someone who doesn’t do
As someone who doesn’t do multi-monitor gaming I’m surprised the sidescreen stretch hasn’t been solved yet. Was it just the computational hit that made running multiple cameras undesirable? Does this mean increases in VR performance will also increase multi-monitor performance in these situations as VR is basically doing the same thing?
Yes.
Reports from the
Yes.
Reports from the developers day is that the 2 other screens are displayed at lower detail or in VR the out of center is. Just a guess but I would imagine the process savinging in displaying at a lesser detail allows it the flexibility to process the scenery correctly with minimal impact.
Nothing complex about the
Nothing complex about the founders edition, it is a reference card being sold for $100 more than it should and it sets a precedent.
This is exactly what everyone
This is exactly what everyone should of expected but most fanboys expected 2x titan x performance which it’s far from. I don’t know why it’s so mind-blowing to you guys, it’s no different than what we get every new process node. The 680 was in the same position when it launched, nothing new here.
The most “objective”
The most “objective” journalists in the world “excited” about a new product from their mother compagny !?
No way !
amd supplied performance
amd supplied performance benchmarks they need to take with a grain of salt and verify. Nvidia supplied performance benchmarks…..”That is so impressive.”
Don’t checkout his twitter.
Don’t checkout his twitter. Ryan said he is 100% async compute is there. AMAZING!!! since he doesn’t have a driver to test and verify that.

980 TI flashback anyone
Seriously who needs a driver or a working card to verify this stuff. Certainly not a professional. He is only human guys. C’mon
Never seams to amaze me. Who needs comedy central.
Why is this being compared to
Why is this being compared to the gtx 980? It’s almost like you couldn’t already buy a gpu with titan x performance for $600. The 980 ti is already much faster than the 980 for $600. If they want to compare the 1080 to last gen then it needs to be compared to 980 ti/titan x. When the 680 launched it wasn’t compared to the 560 ti was it? No it was compared to the fastest single chip they had available at the time which was the 580.
Because the target audience
Because the target audience for this cards most likely 980 owner and below. those that already have 980ti probably going to wait for the big gun. But worry not. All review will compare them against 980ti. Even nvidia compare them against Titan X.
still think its a Maxwell die
still think its a Maxwell die shrink – gddr5x isn’t doing a lot at all
Isn’t the point of marketing
Isn’t the point of marketing to fall for marketing? So I agree with the above poster. Lets control ourselves and be careful to not surrender our tech-review rational perspectives till the actual reviews come out. Lets remember, Nvidia (like any other corporation) is here to make money, first and foremost.
Also, its a really crappy
Also, its a really crappy situation for us gamers if Nvidia and AMD end up selling for just particular price segments. No competition means customers getting ripped off eventually.
So when’s the NDA lift for
So when’s the NDA lift for benchmarking releases to public? 🙂
Can’t wait to see what this baby will do for my VR. Right now I’m exploring the “simple” games for Vive (they’re great btw). And I am waiting to play more demanding games such as The Gallery to do those in full glory once I get my 1080.
For me, I am waiting for a version with a silent cooling solution. Probably ASUS Strix edition.
Exciting stuff!
I think on the stream they
I think on the stream they said the NDA for reviews comes off on May 17th

Why Allyn compared in the
Why Allyn compared in the video, the 780/Ti with the 980 ? 780 was the high-end architecture GK110, and the 980 was the mainstream maxwell GP204.
The right comparison is 680/770 vs. 980. The 980 had a big boost, like 50% vs. kepler GK104.
This 1080, has the same boost compared with the 980 GM204, probably bigger, due to 16nmFF.
No the correct comparison is
No the correct comparison is the former highest performing part. When nvidia are charging 599 for parts that would be considered midrange in the past such as gk104,gm204,gp104 then the get compared to the real high end cards they follow.
When 980 was announced by
When 980 was announced by Huang, there was a slider there, that compared the 980 with the 680. When 1080 was launched there were several sliders with 980 GM204 comparison.
So the right way is that 1080 is the successor of GM204. AMD vega and nvidia pascal GP100/102 will be the replacement for Fury series from and, and for titan x/ 980 Ti for nvidia.
This is the correct way to look at things. If 1080 beats titan x and 980 ti, doesn’t mean that was meant to replace them.
More AMD defense operatives
More AMD defense operatives whining…
Sorry, but I have to agree
Sorry, but I have to agree this is a BS preview.
The card will be released at $699, THIS is the REAL RELEASE PRICE.
$599 is not the release price, if it is post a link and I will buy one on release day at $599.
And…
No benchmarks = Marketing Fluff, really not needed.
I loved this video
I loved this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jIDbZG1VxY
It pretty much breaks down numbers on the cards. Really worth the watch.
Edit: Ryan i want your BB8 T-shirt.
ugh. Some mods on EVGA’s
ugh. Some mods on EVGA’s forums confirmed that 2-way SLI is the only option for the 1080s.
That makes me sad .. well.. i guess i’ll just wait for the Titan version.

I think Ryan Shrout is doing
I think Ryan Shrout is doing a good job. Also what’s with the hateful comments? I wonder what AMD will be competing with? They got that super fast memory. I’ll probably end up buying a new rig in the summer or fall. But I want to see what’s out there.
Where on the roadmap is the
Where on the roadmap is the 1080 Ti? $600 for the non Ti version is stiff for MSRP.
