Over the last few months, AMD has been fighting their reputation for being slow and unreliable with driver updates. Ryan wrote a piece about it after AMD discussed the issue with him. He noted that, while the increase is noticeable and great, it takes time and consistency to trust that a company will provide their products with a certain level of support.
Since then, AMD has released two drivers in April, three in May, and now, already, one in June. Each of these provide enhancements for individual games, right in line with their release dates, as well as fix several issues along the way. Crimson Edition 16.6.1 aligns with Mirror's Edge: Catalyst, which makes this post surprisingly difficult to type. It also includes enhancements for Paragon and a Crossfire profile for Dark Souls III. If users were experiencing flickering and corruption with videos in a web browser, AMD claims that was also fixed in this version.
Of course, users are not required to install every version, but it's available for those who want it.
Before Nvidia for a change
Before Nvidia for a change wow that’s rare
They do seem to be trying
They do seem to be trying hard to put things right with the drivers over the last 6 months to be fair. They need to keep it up and keep on going. Well done AMD. 🙂
Yup!
Yup!
Too bad the custom
Too bad the custom resolutions and overclocking are still not working well. Why can a dude on the forum make a better patch for 6 month old drivers better than software engineers at AMD for the new ones? It is good to hear about the fix for the video issues, I have been experiencing them for a few months now. I’m going to give this version a shot.
Why would you say it is not
Why would you say it is not required and adding its available for those who want it? That sentense is more like: you should not install latest drivers from AMD because they are not good enough. It’s not a beta driver and it is actually hotfixing issues…Why would you not install latest driver like this? It seems to me like you are actually telling people to not download latest drivers because of your reasons. And that entire thing about trust? Like srsly, how many times will this site post this bull*hit? AMD improved greatly in drivers and saying its hard to trust after more than 8 months is just silly.
Agreed, seems this site, or
Agreed, seems this site, or news poster, found it quite difficult to post something good about AMD.
This site’s blue & green theme is well chosen alright.
LOL, I wasn’t even aware
LOL, I wasn’t even aware until you pointed it out.
I was actually predicting
I was actually predicting that people would complain about AMD making users install drivers too frequently. Never expected it would be considered an anti-AMD statement. Congratulations. :p
Seriously? *That’s* what you
Seriously? *That's* what you got from this news post? Yes, AMD does need to put out driver updates more frequently, and they need to do so for more than a few releases before folks will trust that they will continue to do so. The reason they need to rebuild this trust is that they have previously said they would provide updates far more rapidly than they did for some time.
More frequently? Let me
More frequently? Let me remind you that Nvidia released this year 14 drivers, AMD released 13 (I hope I am correct with numbres). So to make you trust them they MISS ONE driver release. Too bad for them, or just you? And dont forget that Radeon technologies group was formed in Q4 of 2015.
And for @Scott Michaud – if you could atleast read you would see that the way you wrote your closing sentence looks as anti-AMD statement.
OMG you guys are so biased!
OMG you guys are so biased! Only AMD and Nvidia updated drivers. What about intel iGPU driver release notes!?
