Thanks to a recent leak over at Bodnara.co.kr (which has since been taken down), pictures emerged online that give a first look at an AMD socket AM4 motherboard using the mid-range B350 chipset. The Gigabyte B350M-DS3H is a Micro ATX motherboard supporting Bristol Ridge processors at launch and Zen-based processors next year.
The mid-range AM4 board has a very simple layout that leaves little mystery. There are no large heatsinks and no northbridge thanks to AMD moving most of the connectivity to the SoC itself. In fact there is only a small passively cooled chip in the bottom right corner (the B350 chipset) that between the SoC and it can offer up PCI-E 3.0, SATA 6.0, USB 3.1, USB 3.0, NVMe SSD, and DDR4 memory support. This post outlines how the duties are split between the processor and southbridge.
The B350M-DS3H is powered by a 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS and Gigabyte is using a seven phase VRM to power the processor and memory. The board hosts a 1331 pin AM4 socket up top with four DDR4 slots to the right. The CMOS battery is placed just above the PCI-E slots in a position that Morry would be proud of (so long as your CPU cooler is not too massive). Below that are two PCI-E 3.0 x16 slots (electrically x16/x4 or x8/x8), a single PCI-E 3.0 x1 slot, and a NVMe M.2 (PCI-E) slot. The bottom right corner of the board hosts six SATA 6 Gbps ports.
Rear I/O on the AMD motherboard includes:

- 3 x Video Outputs
- 1 x VGA
- 1 x DVI
- 1 x HDMI
- 4 x USB 3.0
- 2 x USB 3.1
- 1 x Gigabit Ethernet
- 3 x Audio Jacks
Several websites are reporting that AMD will be unleashing the floodgates of socket AM4 motherboards using the A320 and B350 chipsets in October (it is saving the launch of the enthusiast X370 chipset for next year alongside Summit Ridge). I have to say that it is nice to see an AMD motherboard with updated I/O which is a nice change from the ancient 990X AM3+ platform and even the FM2+ motherboards which were newer but still .ot as full featured as the competition.

Again we see very bad
Again we see very bad multi-core performance scaling on AMD’s Naples. SMT is still not enabled as Geekbench does not report total number of (logical) threads. I have a feeling that single core score of 984 was running at 2.9GHz turbo clockspeed.
Single core performance from 2.9GHz to 1.44GHz: 984*1.44/2.9=488
Single thread performance in multi thread workload: 16957/64=265
Single core scaling in multi thread workload: (265/488)*100%=54.3%
Even current quad socket Opteron can get around 70%, so this is looking more like octa socket server scaling (which can drop to around 60% or below).

quick question. Is it okay for me to overclock my i5 6400 to 3.3 Ghz? I have a MSI B150m with an aftermarket tower cooler. I dont know what’s at stake here but will my mobo be safe?

It’s a little funny to ask a question about Intel overclocking in an article about AMD future products.
In any case, can your Intel be overclocked? Isn’t it multiplier locked? If you can overclock it you shouldn’t have a problem if your motherboard is made to accept processors with higher TDP. The problem with overclocking and motherboards, is when your overclocked processor asks much more power than what your motherboard can safely provide. Your 6400 is 65W, a couple of B150M MSI boards that I looked support 91W TDP cpus, so I don’t think you are going to have a problem (except if their is an option and you move the voltage too high).
But, looking at Intel’s site your processor is already doing 3.3GHz at Turbo.

Do B150 motherboards allow overclocking? And if your part is not a k version you arebt going to be able to push it much further than stock. I dunno though I have not looked into overclocking the newer Intel chips in awhie

DDR4 memory in hand ready to blow away my old am3+. Am3 was a good socket, but all the am3 boards stagnated the last few years. Every time I go shopping it’s the damn same boards with mor revisions. At least am4 forces vendors to get creative and churn out new designs.
Maybe this time around with
Maybe this time around with BR/AM4 and later Zen/AM4 there can be more affordable Steam Machines builds and OEM versions. Those Intel/Nvidia systems where a little too costly for the performance that they provided. I can really see an all AMD platfrom easily outperforming the consoles for maybe $50-$100 more with plenty of options for adding more graphics/compute power later on.

At CNote, I agree with you and I think all the am4 boards that are popping up on the internet as of now are all OME. I’m hoping when they show the X370 retail boards we’ll see some nice options, I.E. better Audio maybe 2 MVMe M.2? I’m sure we will!For now I guess it’s just a waiting game.

When will they release them.. I need a nice small NAS build and the 35W excavator APU,s sound delicious. And even for my main system, be a nice temp system till Zen comes out. My AM3+ Sabertooth 990FX motherboard needs to be sent for RMA, but can’t be without a system..

Let’s see the boards that are less backward looking. I don’t mind low end boards (in fact will probably get one), but I’d rather have DP instead of VGA, and really don’t need a PS/2 port (although that’s less of an issue). Other than this looks okay to me.
It’s really disappointing
It’s really disappointing seeing the lack of innovation in the motherboard industry. Inclusion of legacy ports like VGA & DVI which are easily supported with affordable DisplayPort adapters, STILL no damn standardized quick connect for front-panel headers, that garbage USB3.0 header, etc… All they do is pile on plastic shrouds and change a color or two here and there. Reminds me of every automobile manufacturer suddenly covering their engines with plastic shrouds to try and make them look modern. Uggh, I could make so much money in this market if I only had the funding to start my own damn motherboard company.

The new Bristol Ridge A6-9500 is literally “poor man’s Celeron” http://www.vortez.net/news_story/amd_7th_gen_a6_9500_and_a12_9800_cpu_cinebench_scores.html really bad Cinebench scores there even at 4.3GHz overclocked speeds. An older generation Celeron G1620 at default clockspeeds have better scores than that.
