We've known for quite some time that Microsoft planned to stop providing OEMs with keys for Windows 7 or 8.1 this Halloween and they have made good on that promise. If you already have a valid license you will contine to be able to use it on your machine and even reinstall from scratch but you won't be able to buy a machine without Windows 10 anymore. On the corporate side this is being ignored, the new machine may ship with Win10 installed but that will not last long. This is your last chance to grab one of the few remaining unused Windows 7 or 8.1 keys, The Register managed to spot at least one company still offering a Win7 downgrade so get moving if that is your plan.
"If you can get Dell, HP Inc, Lenovo or any other PC-maker to sell you a PC running Windows 7 Professional or Windows 8.1, please let us know how you did it because Microsoft no longer sells the operating system to OEMs."

Good luck getting a windows
Good luck getting a windows 7, or 8.1, PC/Laptops at micro center, as they have taken a lot of their older model laptop SKUs(new laptops, just one or two years old) and gimped them with windows 10. They still have some windows 7, or 8.1 stock on even older laptops(mostly refurbished) that do have the dreaded 10.
AMD does need to realize that it should be trying VERY HARD to get some of its Zen Based APUs with Polaris or Vega Graphics into the offerings of some of the Linux OS based Laptop/PC OEM makers like system76/other Linux OS OEM laptop/PC makers! There will be a great demand for Linux based laptops from Linux based OEM’s the closer it gets to 2020 and windows 7’s EOL! AMD should go out of its way to offer the Linux OS based OEM PC/Laptop makers some very favorable deals on its newer Zen/Polaris/Vega APU based laptops and PC SKUs! As soon as I see any Linux OS based OEM laptop with any Zen/Polaris or Zen/Vega graphics, I am getting that laptop ASAP.
On a side note to AMD you need to make your GCN “1.0/ first generation GCN” GPUs work with Vulkan, as most of the few GCN graphics based laptops with AMD GCN discrete mobile graphics cards available at micro center are only of the First generation GCN based Graphics based “1.0” mobile/laptop cards. It is very hard to find any non APU based graphics laptops at brick and mortar stores with any discrete mobile/laptop AMD graphics cards above GCN “1.0”.
I know that all consumer versions of windows 7(new licenses)are no longer being sold, as is windows 8.1 but what about 8.1 pro? There is not much complete information about windows 8.1 Pro, as usually the pro versions get a little more time than the others mostly due to business users using the pro versions. Windows 8.1 is not going EOL until 2023.
Edit: that do have the

to: that do not have the dreaded 10.

The non FOOLS amoung the
The non FOOLS amoung the folks with half a brain are still using windows 7, as are those with the most brains, and they will never go to Spyware/Adware 10! You may enjoy bending over and taking all of that windows 10 forcing but others will never accept that windows 10 EULA and its terms of indentured servitude!
You are truely a UWP(Universal Windows Peasant)! So bend over and enjoy a good F-ing up your nether region from the Lords of Redmond!

Though not for the reasons the walnut above stated as many of them realize the terms ain't changed much since Win 95.
If you want a great operating
If you want a great operating system that will make you happy, then try Manjaro KDE 16-10. This operating system is free, stable and more beautiful than Win 10.
Insted being slave to Windows 7/8.1/10, try something that will set you free for life. The world is full of wonderful things.
If you hate what I wrote, then ignore it and keep doing what you have been doing for many years.
I want the system76/other
I want the system76/other Linux OS laptop OEM folks to get some Linux out of the box laptop SKUs with Zen/Polaris, or Zen/Vega, Laptop APUs in them. My HP ProBook(Intel core i7 3632QM/AMD 7650M discrete mobile GPU, Terascale not GCN) is getting a little old and I want a laptop without Windows(M$)/Intel/Nvidia inside.
I do not really care that much about Zen’s IPC metrics because with AMD’s GCN based Graphics(Above GCN 1.0) there is support for Blender Cycles rendering on AMD’s newer GPUs! So screw the CPU for any rendering workloads. I do not care about any Blender rendering on the CPU, even as a benchmarke for Zen, as any bog standard GPU kicks the butt of even the highest cost Intel Xeon’s on graphics rendering workloads, ditto for any Zen cores GPUs will kick Zen’s Butt also for graphics rendering.
No serious Blender users use the CPU for rendering anyways! The only Blender users that have ANY need for CPU rendering under Blender are the ones that have to use the CPU because their AMD GPU is not of a new enough GCN generation to support Blender’s Cycles rendering on the GPU. Nvidia’s GPUs have supported Blender Cycles rendering for some time but Nvidia’s GPUs are much too costly and gimped of SP FP performance!
So All I’ll need is a Zen/Polaris based APU in a laptop that comes from an Linux Laptop OEM(Linux OS out of the BOX) with an AMD Zen/Polaris or Zen/Vega APU, and the option for an AMD Discrete Mobile GPU also(Polaris/Vega)!
And it’s not for the Zen CPU cores that I want the APU it’s that APU’s Graphics, Because with Blender Cycles Rendering on the GPU(Integrated or discrete) there really is no need for a powerful CPU! All the real Blender graphics rendering will be done on the GPU. CPU’s are a real Joke at rendering compared to GPUs, any GPUs!
I’ll keep using Windows 7
I’ll keep using Windows 7 until Microsoft pulls its head out of its ass or ReactOS, or another alternative comes to market. At worst, my computer becomes a zombie until the next scheduled formatting.
