Chris Capossela, Chief Marketing Officer at Microsoft, was on Windows Weekly recently and admitted, for the first time, that Microsoft may have gone a bit too far during their "Get Windows 10" extravaganza. This shocking revelation supposedly occurred a short while after they released the version in which the red X in the popup window broke with their GUI's standard and no longer closed the window and cancelled the installation. According to Slashdot this is the first time Microsoft have admitted to the use of excessive rendition techniques on Windows 7 and 8 users.
"It's no secret that Microsoft has been aggressively pushing Windows 10 to users. Over the past year and a half, we have seen users complain about Windows 10 automatically getting downloaded to their computer, and in some cases, getting installed on its own as well. The automatic download irked many users who were on limited or slow data plans, or didn't want to spend gigabytes of data on Windows 10."

I wonder when they’ll finally
I wonder when they’ll finally admit that they might have gone too far in turning their OS into an adware/spyware/malware platform and their customers into milk cows.
They have been doing that
They have been doing that since AT LEAST Windows 7, nothing new here.
yet most of you use that
yet most of you use that crapware OS ADroid and bend over and take it without a question.
They’ve got a long way to go
They’ve got a long way to go to make things right. They need to give control back to users.
Microsoft…Gone too
Microsoft…Gone too far?…What a shocker!

The next step is to admit
The next step is to admit they turned a computer OS into a freemium adware which is too intrusive something you could expect from a Google product but not from MS. At least Google is not hiding it and gives you some control over the data. MS should go back and make the OS good enough so people will decide to make the jump. Forcing it down the throat a product which does not respect privacy is not a reason to upgrade.
I think this is an important
I think this is an important distinction. We’re going to be electronically exploited these days. It’s our new economy. It’s a price you pay for certain technological features and connections. As long as there’s transparency and a good faith effort to respect the rights of the consumer, certain personal concellations can be swallowed. Trying to obfuscate choice and coerce commitment is shameful.
But Windows 10 and an SSD have rejuvenated my crappy budget laptop.
Really you are a complete
Really you are a complete TOOL! Now bend over and enjoy your Redmond masters’ forcing! And that crap that comes from your mouth when it should be going out the other end to be properly flushed down and fed into the treatment plant!
Windows 10 is still infected with Tiles, and more adware and spyware, it’s not an OS is a marketing system!
Windows 7 is the last of the M$ OS products that will see any large usage! It’s time to move on to retain control over our PC/Laptop hardware!
You can get rid of tiles with
You can get rid of tiles with the magic of google
I can never have them with
I can never have them with the magic of windows 7 until 2020, all while not having to play the eternal game of privacy whack-a-mole with the windows 10 and its EULA from the middle ages! Windows 10’s forced updates will undo any settings and re-install all that crapware and sponsored Craplications forced onto your windows 10 system! The “Magic” of Google is not going to fix all that windows 10 OS/crapware/adware/spying that will be turned right back on with the next month’s forcing from the lords of Redmond! So you can get that BOHICA brand of forcing each and every month of the year! I’ll stay with windows 7, and migrate to Linux when 2020 gets here.
Enjoy your candy crush uninstall and reconfigure tiles saga and also the eternal game of privacy whack-a-mole! Just another tool from the Redmond apologists tool box that “Magic” of Google suggestion is!
Now admit that windows 8/10
Now admit that windows 8/10 is a failure and go back to the windows 7 way without any Tiles/Spyware/Adware/Cloud! Make all that phone OS/cloud crap optional on PC/Laptops and respect the users’ privacy! That forced monthly update madness must also go away for good as it only causes problems!
Let users/owners have control over their PC/laptop hardware!
Good to see a name associated
Good to see a name associated with this act of stupidity. It does absolutely nothing to lure me back to Microsoft products, though.
The close window to install
The close window to install w10 debacle really did take the biscuit, straight out of the malware handbook.
I’ve been pretty lucky with my main w10 install on my gaming PC, although I’m not using that every day. The old spare laptop is still in the “preview program”, still having issues with that even on the slow builds. Recent fun included creation of “$SysReset” folder on C drive after installing latest build, didn’t have permission to delete it (still can’t get rid of about 2GB of original 6GB). And I Chrome still frequently locks up requiring End Task in Task Manager, when; trying to edit bookmarks, adding links into forums etc.
But I find it mind boggling that 17 months after its product launch, the Start Menu opening consistently is still an issue…
While I dislike how Win10
While I dislike how Win10 went down, most of the issues affected Home editions – which the EULA says M$ owns & can force any update they want to. Win10 Pro lets you opt out of forced updates, but does still leave all the ad/spyware.
I got my copy launch day & haven’t had any issues with it that can’t be traced back to user error. That goes across multiple hardware changes & reinstalls.
That being said, I want an OS that manages my hardware & that’s it. Can’t wait til I can game on Linux.
They’re just trying to use
They’re just trying to use this announcement as a sign of “good will” but it’s just the usual fake PR crap from them.
The mouths of Redmond can
The mouths of Redmond can never be trusted and they can never ever be given the benifit of any consideration after that malware injection attempt known as windows 10! So many people should be taking M$ to court to get back the many hours wasted by having to deal with that nefarious GWX foisting! M$ the great time thief, and peoples’ time is peoples’ money! Damages have to be paid to make people whole again!
Yes, yes, like the
Yes, yes, like the politicians.
“We might have been wrong a few years ago”.
I bet when Windows 1x comes out they will admit that maybe they gone too far with telemetry and automatic updates in Windows 10.
Windows 10 = Diabetes.
GWX =
Windows 10 = Diabetes.
GWX = Cure.
Inject ’em.
ITS NO SECRET THAT AFTER A
ITS NO SECRET THAT AFTER A LOT OF THE THREE LETTER AGENCY SPYING PROGRAMS WERE DEEMED ILLEGAL THAT MICROSOFT RELEASED WINDOWS 10 WITH ITS “AGREE TO THE DATA COLLECTION, THEREBY MAKING IT LEGAL AGAIN”.
HAHAHA
It’s no secret that typing in
It’s no secret that typing in all caps is obnoxious and means most people won’t care what you’re saying regardless of whether or not it’s actually true.
Fuck em’ in the ass,
Fuck em’ in the ass, apologize later. Nice. I see right through your PR bullshit.
The fact that this comes from
The fact that this comes from Chris Capossela, Chief Marketing Officer at Microsoft, should tell you all you need to know about how genuine Microsoft’s regret is.
It doesn’t take two weeks to fix a mistake and for Capossela to pretend Microsoft doesn’t know what its own advise is to developers is disingenuous.
yes we know, the OS is the
yes we know, the OS is the problem, it is definitely not the network. Most definitely not the network. It’s all M$ fault, not the network. It’s apples fault, it’s not the network. It’s google search fault, it’s not the network. It’s the networks fault, it’s not Work’s fault. Work is not the problem it’s the Cure to your mediocre lives. all your base are belong to us
happy new year
happy new year
Personally I used the Windows
Personally I used the Windows 10 Technical Preview (release 1 and 2) on my own machine back before the actual Windows 10 launch. Those preview versions were actually amazing. It felt like the change from XP to 7 (I’d say vista but people will focus on the negatives). All the functionality was there and none of the crap, also I could turn off auto-updates which I can not handle.
I have not used “actual” Windows 10 on my own PC, but I have on many others. I could explain my millions of problems I’ve encountered or are just general, but I’m willing to bet most people are aware of them.
Luckily I disable auto-updates on every install of Windows I use, so I never came home to a new operating system. Everyone has called me crazy my whole life on the disabling part, but experience has shown me otherwise. If something I have/need/want doesn’t work (happened twice in 2.5 years using W8.1 (yes) and I tend to use a lot of stuff), I find out why, and if a required update is the issue you can DOWNLOAD THEM MANUALLY AND INSTALL THEM!..
However I digress. What bothers me is to see everyone complaining about Windows 10 (I don’t like it either) when there’s this giant issue lurking in the corner, but everyone is ignoring while it gets closer to us and exponentially stronger… The issue I’m speaking about of course is the DX12 + new CPU Windows 10 lock…
I have no intention of switching to W10 in its current form. I do not expect it to change to suit the needs of me or others like me. However I do lots of stuff designing games, and I am independant. Basically, in a few years I will have two choices; Sell out or find a new life… Yay?
Backing people into a corner who want to use the “features” MS includes in W10 I could (kind-of) see acceptable. When they decided to make deals with Intel & possibly even AMD (according to lots of news I’ve seen) with the lock is insane. The DX12 lock is scarier in my opinion (in the short term)… I am currently developing in UE4 which can export both Vulkan and OpenGL, but unless I build a Windows 10 system I can’t test DX12, which is what the majority of users will most likely prefer in the coming years. Vulkan is very, very promising, but it doesn’t have the years of support and experience, and the performance-per-card isn’t as garaunteed (yet).
We need to talk about this. We need to find answers for the issues before they arise.. Maybe not on the CPU lock lol. Just the principle of taking things that have been cross platform and have no reason not to be and using them to force everyone onto Windows 10. This is the real fight in my opinion… Sorry for writing so damn much, but honestly I barely scratched the surface of what I feel here… Thanks for reading if you were actually bored enough! 😛
