If you have a huge collection of files you want backed up, Seagate’s new external HDD is a decent alternative to deleting what you don't need anymore so it will fit on most drives. Inside the Backup Plus is a shingled Barracuda with 5 platters of 1TB giving you a huge amount of storage for around $160. It also comes with a two year OneDrive subscription which gives you another 200GB of online storage. The copying process should not take a painful amount of time, the testing results at Nikktech show it to be one of the faster external drives they have benchmarked.
"The brand new Backup Plus 5TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive by Seagate doesn't only offer plenty of storage capacity and impressive performance for when on the go but it also comes bundled with a 2-year OneDrive 200GB subscription. Oh and did we mention that it's priced just right?"

I didnt know Seagate did SMR
I didnt know Seagate did SMR on anything below 8TB.

Ya, found that interesting as well. This was one of those where the product was more interesting than the actual review.
They have 5TB, 6TB and 8TB
They have 5TB, 6TB and 8TB SMR drives.
I think all the externals now of those capacities have switched over to SMR. Of course the prices haven’t gone done.

When will you finally stop this, Jeremiah?
Could mention it’s a 2.5″

Any power or performance issues if using USB2 connection?
I suppose I did leave that
I suppose I did leave that bit out, sorry … also 15nm. No worries about powering over USB 2.0, you will be good, just may experience slower transfer.

I’m barely getting by with my 2Tbs and 4Tbs… I really need two 8TB or 10TB drives. I say two because that is a WHOLE lot of data to loose. If I could afford it, three, the third being off site.
But… it’s a Seagate.

Seagate became quite great in
Seagate became quite great in the last 3-or-so years.
They’ve basically made an insane comeback after they’ve started going 4TB and beyond. Their 4TB+ offerings are actually (in all seriousness) of absolutely top-notch quality both reliability and performance-wise.
Hell, their ST8000NM0055 enterprise offering is THE FACTO most best 8TB HDD that you can get on the worldwide hardware market at the current time. It might look somewhat expensive for some, but it’s just THAT good all aspects-wise. And, at the very least according to BackBlaze, their 4TB drives been SUPER-SOLID too.
These are NOT shitty “Barracudas” in any way whatsoever at all, though. Let me rephrase you: “But…it’s a Barracuda”. Don’t blame Seagate. Blame the utter TRASH that is Barracuda line.
Master Chen are you a native
Master Chen are you a native English speaker, or is this Google translate! Your English jibber jabber is most amusing! This spacial diction of yours smacks of a rusting double-wide existence out in the hills of some stripped of its mineral resources bucolic setting!

Well then blame it on
Well then blame it on LibreOffice! Their fucking English crappy ass dictionary and aggressive auto correct will get anyone off the hook with that damn aggressive auto-correct that always chooses the wrong word! “spacial diction” should read special diction.
This is why no one should ever donate to libreOffice! Tell then to work on getting a better Dictionary system with complete user editing of the default dictionary allowed.
Tell them, no it should not

Do those benchmarks really
Do those benchmarks really tell the whole story given it is a SMR drive? What happens when you have the drive heavily filled and write data? Or rewrite after it is filled?
This is not how you backup
This is not how you backup your hoard. Temporarily maybe, but inefficient to be called backing things up in the long run.

I’ll only want PMR drives at
I’ll only want PMR drives at 2TB please in a RAID configuration of about 8-16 TB total storage before moving things to long term storage. As with any larger needs I’d rather have tape backup! The best kind of drive would be maybe a hybrid drive with at least 64-128 GB of flash cache and the hybrid drive’s controller eventually moving everything to the spinning rust portion of the drive in the background for better long term storage stability! Tape is still the best with a tiered storage system/NAS that can perform all that Tape backup in the background from the RAID/NAS system.
Tape is still the only real affordable backup solution for large amounts of data backup stored off site for disaster protection. Hard drives are only really for hot data redundant storage with RAID providing a rapid recovery solution for drive failure protection, NOT disaster protection. Hard drives for archival storage is a waste and for small amounts DVDs may have an advantage over tape, but when 8-16 TB of storage needs to be regularly backed up then tape really is still a good choice shipped to the off site to the hardened storage vault.
Is Seagate still making 1-2TB PMR drives, because that’s the best for my laptop usage on the go.
That much data on a Seagate
That much data on a Seagate is really scary stuff.
