MSI takes their Dominator series of laptops seriously and the new Kaby Lake model is no exception. The GSYNC IPS display is natively 4k and the 8GB GTX 1070 should drive it at 60Hz without issue, or you could skip the monitor and go straight to VR as the required ports are present. The CPU is an i7-7820HK, with 32GB of DDR4-2400 in a dual channel configuration and Samsung provided an M.2 500GB SSD rated at 540MB/s read, 520MBs write, with a 1TB HDD for extra storage. It weighs in at almost 3kg (6.4lbs) so it is not as heavy as you might expect, though the 230W power adapter may add a few straws to that load. eTeknix tired it out to see how effective it was at replacing a gaming desktop, you can see the results and photos of the internals right here.
"MSI’s gaming laptops have gained a special status for their gorgeous sense of style and astounding features. It’s no surprise that the latest data puts their firmly in the lead as the world’s most successful gaming laptop manufacturer. Honestly, it’s thoroughly deserved and I’m pleased to see the MSI pushing the technical envelope further and making laptops a true alternative to traditional desktops."

Lets stick 4k monitor in at only 15inch when you can prob get twice frames and on ultra on 1440 display. Also LMFAO pixel denisty at 15 1440 would look just as good at 4k not to mention how hard text will be to read off that screen….nub
Actually, as far as text
Actually, as far as text reading goes, 4k on a 15 inch is perfect because it can run 200% scaling which makes everything look like a much crisper 1080p.

“pixel denisty at 15 1440 would look just as good at 4k”
That’s just false. Perhaps to some, the difference is negligible. But one is definitely superior to the other. One cannot interpret the facts in any other manner.
And as many review sites and forum posts have noted, running games @1440 or 1080 on 4k panels does in fact result in increased visual quality.
Playing devil’s advocate
Playing devil’s advocate here, assuming that 4k on 15.5″ panel is indeed a waste, why does not the same logic/phenomenon apply to other devices? Say cellphones for instance?
4k at 15.5″= 284 PPI
1440 at 5.5″= 534 PPI
1080 at 5″= 440 PPI
800 at 5″= 301 PPI
You can stroll into your local phone retailer and easily see the difference in visual quality for yourself. It’s a marked difference. And notice that the ppi of a 15.5″ 4k panel is still not as high as a low end phone. Let alone the mid range or flagship devices.
Despite my lack of technical expertise in this area, I find it difficult to believe that a 15.5″ 4k panel is “waste”, when panel technology in phones/tablets appear to indicate the opposite.

SPECS actually make sense. It has attachments for VR so the GTX1070 is not a waste.
You can run games at 2560×1440 if you want to; you aren’t forced to use 4K.
And 4K might sound silly for a screen like this but it’s not. I simulated it with a 4K desktop by moving AWAY to the appropriate distance (with DPI scaling set high).
I can’t be certain how 4K vs 2560×1440 native would compare side-by-side, just that 4K worked out fine except for a few programs that aren’t compatible with modern scaling methods.
Absolutely, NVIDIA card and
Absolutely, NVIDIA card and GSYNC monitor will work. If you get a 1080p or 1440p it will even support higher than 60Hz.

Are they looking at the same picture as me? That said style is low on my list of concerns. To me, 15.6 is the best compromise if you must game on a laptop. Also, for me a number pad isn’t optional so this unit would tick all my boxes if I was compelled to game on a laptop.
