While Razer did not name any particular product when first publicly posting about a theft (see FaceBook screencap below) from their booth at CES, the BBC is now reporting that "the stolen prototypes" in question were indeed the Project Valerie triple-screen laptop introduced last week.
"Two prototype models of an unusual gaming laptop with three screens have been stolen at the CES tech show in Las Vegas, according to PC maker Razer. The concept device boasts three 4K screens and is said to be the first portable laptop of its kind. Razer said the laptops had gone missing from its booth at the tech show on Sunday.
The incident was being taken 'very seriously', said chief executive Min-Liang Tan. A Razer spokesman said it was offering $25,000 (£20,600) for any 'original information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction' of those allegedly involved in the crime."
Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan initially posted news of stolen prototypes from his FaceBook page:
One would expect that the security in place at CES, including many security cameras, should produce some more information as the investigation unfolds.

Yeah, because their project whatever the hell it was wasn’t a complete rip off from Philips and Microsoft.
Play fair. Bwahaha.
Multi-display laptops aren’t
Multi-display laptops aren’t new or unique to Razer, but it does suck that someone stole it.
Shouldn’t be too hard to find it though. Someone is going to post to social media and get caught.
Nothing but a publicity

I don’t get it. We have a picture posted of Linus “walking off with it”. That turns into a site posting fake news that it was stolen ( I just thought this was as dumb as CNN posting the picture of the Fallout hack screen) and now it turns out 2 laptops were stolen?
do you dispute the
do you dispute the photographic evidence?

Hard to say if this was a publicity stunt. It’s hard to feel bad for them given that facebook post. Just sounds like straight up corporate butthurt. Even if it is corporate espionage, screw them. Let people use and develop on the tech they want rather than hoarding technologies. Stuff is better when ideas aren’t fettered by legal crap.
What the f… – are you
What the f… – are you people for real? IT . WAS . STOLEN .
Not an “idea” – PHYSICAL private property. Does Common Law exist in your country? If so you may be benefiting from it just a teeny-weeny little bit. I expect that Razer has the same right to property ownership as you do.
“Stuff is better when ideas aren’t fettered by legal crap.”
Are you inviting me to steal your stuff?
“corporate butthurt” – “hoarding technologies”
My god man, do you have any notion of where technology comes from?
Hear, Hear! Well said.

So, let’s suppose for an instant you came up with a a few really good ideas and set to work on developing them. Some things that will most definitely sell a lot of and make you a lot of money.
Marinate in that for awhile, really let it sink in.
How would you like it if your hard work was taken from you?
Or let’s use your logic and reasoning:
” … , screw them. Let people use and develop on the tech they want rather than hoarding technologies. …. ” – then you would be ok with other companies releasing products that have your ideas in them. Not only would you not get any of that money from those other company products, but you will also not sell that many of your own products.
The golden rule: Treat others how you want to be treated.

Really WTF! Razor decides you get nothing but a pat on the head and a doggy treat(And not even of the Scooby Snack level of treat)! Razor Knows where thay can shove that “Reward offer”!
Kim Jong-un probably has one on his desk right now, with a list of new beauticians on those triple screens! The old beautician did not make out so well and his head wound up like so many hair cuttings on the floor!

It’s Razor’s fault for not
It’s Razor’s fault for not providing the proper security and handling! And no one really cares about some damn crazy reward!
The booth staff, the Razor employees themselves, should have had the samples packed and shipped as soon as the aisle rugs where up at the show’s closing and/or secured during the night time hours during the show’s run, depending on when the thefts actually happened, and shipping theft(during transit) is a problem unto itself.
On trade shows there is always some traveling booth lead person employed by the display’s builder/display house for its client, Razor, that should have been there at the show’s close(usually the entire show run, take-in, show, take-out) to help the client Razor/Booth staff pack up the laptops/other samples into their lockable aluminum cases! And Razor staff/display house booth lead should have locked the cases and personally escorted them to shipping to directly transfer custody to the shipping company’s direct agent(shipping companies have their special areas at all trade shows where high value/important items are shipped directly). That expensive stuff is usually shipped rush to the next event or directly by air back to the company/company’s storage facility.
That is what is done for high value booth products/samples, as well as large booth display screens and such! Even during the show run at Night Razor/display house contractor should have provided/hired booth security overnight, or locked the samples in a cage until the next show day or both. I’ve seen too many company sales staff/booth staff rush off and not do their job to fully secure the high value display product and theft is big at trade shows! What with all the temporary employees doing the cleanup etc., or the trade show trade workers themselves and others!
There are thousands of different workers of various trades and temporary workers at these big events and security has to be done at the booth level by security guards as soon as the expensive product is dropped off to be placed on/in the display booth, including for some of the expensive booth Plasma/other displays used for display of ad/graphics. That stuff can grow legs fast if there are not any eyes on them 24/7 or what ever the length of the show is, including move-in/set-up, show, and take-down, and it’s best to get that expensive stuff shipped as soon as the aisle rugs/carpet is up on closing day.
The sense of entitlement not there at all! I do not give a 1/10th of a rat’s shiny red A$$ about Razor and its loss, that’s a security cockup on someone’s(Razor/display house lead’s, Booth Security if there was any hired) watch if it happened at the convention center, it’s out of their hands if it happened during shipping!
Holy wall of Tangent text
Holy wall of Tangent text Batman!
The anon’s post I responded to was full of outrage about Razer’s reward disclaimer. As if somehow, some way, he came across the stolen goods and returned them to razer, and then razer didn’t give him the full reward that he would be upset. THAT is the sense of entitlement I referred to.
Maybe someone worked in the
Maybe someone worked in the trade show industry, so this type of booth theft is common for companies that have booth employees/contractors who do not practice constant vigilance! But you just keep stretching the truth for your own sycophant needs, but any trade show has that problem especially with all that new and shiny CES types electronics product! The real horror is the abject ignorance of the bog standard gaming Git! Now there is some real sociopathic types including the author of the above post that this post replies.
CES happens in Vegas every year, so it’s among the most popular consumer electronics events, and it’s not just the display products that have to be protected from theft, it’s the display booth’s themselves with their own very expensive very large Plasma/Other technology based booth displays and other expensive electronic/lighting/PC/routers that come with the booths themselves that can be worth more than the products on display in many instances and that have to be secured. Maybe deep down in your basement dwelling you simply do not have the brain power to properly assess reality having wasted so much of your time gaming at the cost of all else!
Security is a big business at trade shows, along with all the other real work required to assemble the booths(One skilled Trade), and wire them up for power(even more skilled electric trade), and all the in house skilled/unskilled workers employees directly by the convention center/s and hotels that sometimes have their own display halls for the really big events that are spread across Vegas and other big convention centers cities in north/south America and around the world. Maybe you just need to let go of the controller buttons and get a life!
I put it in the back pocket
I put it in the back pocket of my JNCO jeans. I won’t be flipping it on ebay cuz it goes so well with my pink headphones and wasting my time on twitch hype.
Publicity stunt. No one heard
Publicity stunt. No one heard about that monstrosity until it was “””stolen”””. Yeah, right.Have they heard about the word “insurance” as well? If that thing was so amazing and so expensive, why didn’t they pay private security for a few days? Sony had two security guards with shotguns at E3 protecting the early PS3 prototype. Would still end up way cheaper than 25K.(which they may end up not paying, based on their mood that day). Nothing fishy at all.
No security cameras or people
No security cameras or people allowed to take pictures or video at CES? Would have thought otherwise and that the act would have been captured by one or the other.
Kinda poetic, since this is
Kinda poetic, since this is how your wallet would have felt if you purchased this monstrosity.

Stealing isn’t cheating.
Stealing isn’t cheating. Fraud is cheating.
Like Razer putting out a video showing Project Valerie folding its auxiliary screens and farting when their prototypes can’t do either. That’s cheating.
