Microsoft will be ending support for Windows 10 build 10240 on March 26th (via Mary Jo Foley), after a year and eight months since it launched in July 2015. For our home readers, this will not be too much of a concern, as most of us are on the Anniversary Update (or another OS entirely). Also, Microsoft supported it longer than some hardware vendors, such as NVIDIA, who requires a later build for PCs with a Pascal-based GPU. (Update: I haven't been able to find out whether AMD supports 10240 or not, and it's really a small point for home users anyway. The point was to show that users are heavily intended to be on the latest version.)
Rippin' off the band-aid.
Again, these new builds are free from Microsoft, so, from a financial standpoint, there’s little reason to not update if your machine can support it. What it does show, however, is how short of a time we have between a bad decision being implemented and a bad decision being forced upon all Windows PCs. If a change upsets you, or feels like it could be used anti-competitively now or in the future, don’t be shy to raise the concern when it appears. You will only have a year or two before it can no longer be avoided… at most… even if you're a business. In most cases, you'll only have a handful of months.
Fuck Microsoft, they’re quite
Fuck Microsoft, they’re quite cancerous! I pray for games moving to linux in the future, I would drop Windows in a heartbeat!
I’d drop windows too. Not a
I’d drop windows too. Not a fan of what MS is doing.
You are so brave man.

I would drop Windows too, but there is not much driver sup port from Nvidia and amd
There is for AMD and Vulkan
There is for AMD and Vulkan maybe from the open source RADV drivers but AMD is working on getting their drivers open souced. It’s just a matter of time before the RADV/Vulkan dirvers becomes the open source standard if AMD continues to delay with their Vulkan drivers open source work. The RADV Vulkan drivers are now getting some support for (NON CF/SLI) milti-GPU support so the games makers on Linux based systems can use more than one GPU for games/other uses!

It’s a damn shame that out of 450ish games in my Steam library I can only play about 140 of them on my Linux system. Out of five new games I bought at Christmas time, NONE of them are supported under Linux.
Is that you Nadella! You are
Is that you Nadella! You are not getting folks to go to 10 because it’s too much like going to hell! Vulkan and Linux is going to be there for 2020 and windows 7 can be locked down in a Linux OS based VM environment after 2020 with no internet acess for gaming under windows 7/Vulkan, with Vulkan running under windows 7 inside a Linux OS Based VM. Windows 7 is that last of the M$ OSs before M$ dries up and blows away! Linux gaming will have its Vulkan API that most of the world’s devices will support witghout the need for anything M$ and M$’s spyware/bloatware/adware related OS ecosystem!
