There’s a lot of interesting elements to this monitor. Apart from the refresh rate, which I believe is 60 Hz, it checks off basically every nice-to-have that I can think of… at least for AMD users. It is borderless on all four sides. It has 95% coverage of DCI-P3, which might even be factory-calibrated (if I understand the “Color Calibrated” specification correctly). It also has FreeSync to make gaming at 4K slightly more smooth if you’re just a bit below 60 FPS.
And, according to B&H Photo (via The Verge), it will be coming on the 28th for $999.
It even includes a $100 B&H Gift Card at that price, too!
If you are into printed content production, then you might want to verify its Adobe RGB compatibility before making your purchase. DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB are both fairly large color spaces, but they deviate from each other. (Apparently, DCI-P3 covers more of the red end, while Adobe RGB covers more of the green.) Adobe RGB, if I understand correctly, extended sRGB into a space that printers could be calibrated into, while DCI-P3 is more for HDR video.
Personally, I find 60 Hz mouse pointers to be very noticeable and distracting. As such, the low refresh rate might be a deal-breaker for someone like me, but pretty much everything else looks like a win — including the ever-important price and availability.
We all know the dream: 4k,
We all know the dream: 4k, 120 hz minimum, some form of adaptive sync, 36 inches, HDR, IPS or possibly OLED. gonna have to wait for displayport 1.3 monitors at least for that though.
And something beefy to handle
And something beefy to handle it. There is no point in anything like that coming out now, as we can barely handle 4k60.
How about a 1080 Ti? Even a
How about a 1080 Ti? Even a 1080 can handle it. I think even a 980 Ti would work as well as long as it has a very heavy overclock.
just wait for hdmi 2.1 with
just wait for hdmi 2.1 with variable refresh to come out this fall. then we can kiss these stupid proprietary gsync/freesync technologies away once every TV has a game mode that’s better than tiny, overpriced monitors.
Freesync is open standard,
Freesync is open standard, its just that nvidia chooses gsync as a walled garden
What do you mean, stupid
What do you mean, stupid proprietary *Freesync*? G-Sync is proprietary and requires an expensive hardware module. Adaptive/Freesync is open and industry standard – first implemented in the VESA DisplayPort specifications. All that’s required to implement is the display manufacturer to wish to do so at no extra cost.
It all depends upon the game
It all depends upon the game and the settings. Playing a lot of Overwatch on a GTX 1080 at 4K/60 with max details, I can tell you, we’re ready for it. Even more demanding titles. If someone wants more framerate, they can adjust settings. We aren’t all PC noobs who just click the “Ultra” button and give our GPU the side-eye.
Add labcie 1978 color space
Add labcie 1978 color space and you’ve got a deal!
All of these monitors are
All of these monitors are soon to be useless. The only users of DCIP3 cant really use monitors like this because its almost guaranteed not to be accurate enough for broadcast of digital cinema work.
They need to make Rec.2020 compliant monitors. Adobe RGB is pretty niche market photography stuff and thats it.
Rec.2020 covers almost all of P3 and Adobe RGB as well.
Right now the quantum dot
Right now the quantum dot based displays like TVs shown at CES by Samsung are the only ones I know of that get close to showing the Rec 20-20 color gamut. I think they’re calling it QD Vision? Now if they only had display port 1.3 connectors and GPU board makers incorporated Dolby Vision outputting chipsets….now that’s what I want!!

27″ is too small for 4k, and IPS has terrible contrast. Also this post(s) reads like an ad

You get used to it. I moved from 1440p/144 to 4K/60 and it (mouse pointer) was noticeable at first. A couple of weeks into it and I was adjusted.

Like losing a leg and get used to use a wheelchair?
For now they better release
For now they better release cheap 1080p version for console gamers.
There are hundreds of 1080p
There are hundreds of 1080p ips monitors already?
Do not know of any HDR
Do not know of any HDR capable 1080p monitor.
Really think 60Hz should be
Really think 60Hz should be put out on pasture. Cannot understand why manufacturers still want to clinch on to 60Hz, that era is over by far.
When we went from CRT to TFT every thing downgraded from 75-120Hz to 60Hz due to TFT limitations. Those TFT limitations are looong gone so now people who want to buy these new monitors hesitate because they DO NOT WANT 60Hz.
If i am to put down $1000 or more for a monitor then it has to last at least 5-8 years. So then i want some thing i can grow in like 4K@120Hz minimum, not some thing that is out dated like 60Hz.
So what if my graphics card can not utilize max frame rate from day one, i change graphics card every 18 months so i will grow in to it.
BUT if i buy 4K@60Hz monitor i will grow out of it next time i upgrade my graphics card and have to buy a new monitor again and how fun is that.
NOW is the time for the manufacturers to grow up and set a 4K@120Hz as minimum, stop wasting or time with ancient technology.
Cannot wait until ASUS 4K@144Hz HDR G-Sync monitor arrives, this screen will put all other 4K monitor to shame. nVidia is really taking a stand to push the monitor industry, in up to two years 60Hz will mostly be gone in 4K monitors thanks to nVidia.
Why is it that people like
Why is it that people like you cant comprehend that monitors and computers are used for other stuff than just gaming?
So you want to pay more for
So you want to pay more for less…gotcha
The asus blew everyone else away just on the iq alone from hdr and quantom dot.
Well there is currently not
Well there is currently not possible to make both correct color and hi frame rate. The large monitors is not targeted to gamers so they are design to have correct color and then you lose the frame rate.
Now you get adaptive sync(freesync) for free in the chips used so that is why the monitor has that feature. It’s not there to attract gamers but something that the hardware has anyway so why not include it.
The limitations that you think is long gone is very much present. sure you can have 144 HZ update with TN panel but not with the picture quality you have with a 60Hz IPS.
Its very possible with OLED
Its very possible with OLED and VA panels and has been done for years. Accuracy has as much to do with the backlight as the panels in LCDs.

Asus has 4k ips 144hz gsync HDR with local dimming for $200 more coming out soon.
$200 more is still $200 more.
$200 more is still $200 more. Who knows how much will LG be once Asus is available.
