A Detailed Look

The Riotoro Onyx Series power supply enclosures are painted matte black and measures 140mm (5.5”) deep. The back panel includes an AC receptacle and main power On-Off switch.

The power supplies use a 120mm, seven blade fan on the bottom for cooling.  The Yate Loon Electronics fan (D12SM-12) is rated for 0.30A at 12 VDC and uses sleeve bearings for quiet operation. The Onyx 750W model uses a small, clear plastic shroud to direct airflow and the 650W model does not.

The front panel on the Onyx 650W PSU incorporates five modular cable connectors while the 750W version has six, all nicely keyed and labelled to prevent inadvertently plugging a cable into the wrong connector.

Here are a few pictures showing the layout and components inside the two Riotoro Onyx power supplies.  Riotoro is using Great Wall as their partner and OEM for all of their new power supplies.

The Onyx Series PSUs use DC-to-DC converters to generate the +3.3V and +5V outputs from the +12V supply.  The layout of components is clean while the soldering appears to be very good. The two primary electrolytic capacitors are Japanese made (Nippon Chemi-con or Rubycon) and are rated for 105°C while most of the caps on the secondary side are made by Teapo (Taiwan).
