Also at the E3 event, Alienware launched a gaming monitor with two SKUs: one with G-Sync and one with FreeSync. Otherwise, these displays are apparently identical. They also apparently have lighting on the back, although it’s unclear whether this is RGB or locked to the Alienware shade of teal. (I’m guessing it’s Alienware teal.) At first, I was wondering why you would even want a light behind a display at all, but I guess it would make sense if it was very low power and you could leave it on while the rest of the display is off, giving a slight glow to an otherwise dark room.
As for the specifications: both of these displays operate at 240 Hz, native, not overclocked. To achieve this rate, its panel is 24.5-inch, 1080p, and TN. The structure itself has a thin bezel on the top, left, and right side, although the bottom has a bit more thickness for the Alienware typeface logo and buttons. Despite being otherwise identical, the G-Sync model (AW2518H) has an MSRP of $699.99, while the FreeSync model (AW2518HF) is $200 cheaper at $499.99.
Both models launch on June 13th.
1920×1080 in 2017. Lol.

then you must be dying of
then you must be dying of laughter when you consider the price of the gsync one
…and don’t forget TN

Do you really not understand
Do you really not understand why 1080p is the perfect resolution for 240hz gaming or are you just trolling?
Competetive gaming might not be your thing, and that’s fine. But try to understand that this kind of monitor is exactly what a certain segment of the gaming population needs.
Resolution is fine for casual stuff, but framerate is god in the comp scene.
I always thought there was an
I always thought there was an Apple tax, and right below that was the Alienware tax.
isn’t this an g-sync tax?
or
isn’t this an g-sync tax?
or are you saying there is alienware tax on both and an additional g-sync tax on the other?
definitely thought there was
definitely thought there was an Alienware tax before there even was g-sync technology. but yes, g-sync does appear to be more expensive than called for.
i pre ordered the new 32″
i pre ordered the new 32″ samsung C32HG70 for $699
feel as if i stole it if this 24″ 1080p tn gsync model goes for $699 notwithstanding it being 240hz v 144hz
i stand corrected, this provides soft room lighting when the monitor is off, and for that it is worth every penny
i gather there are many gamers that would choose refresh rate over all else and will pay for it so i should shut up
Looking forwards to seeing
Looking forwards to seeing nvidia fanboys justifying that extra $200 😀
Gsync is actually a
Gsync is actually a fantastic technology. its fps operating range is far FAR wider then free sync. In free sync monitors if you fps rate falls out of the effective range then free sync no longer works, in Gysnc Panels they dont have this problem. $200 premium is a bit rich but people arent buying a new monitor every year either. if people are investing in a Gsync monitor then that purchase typically is lasting them between 4-7 years on the average monitor purchase. Literally pennies a day…13 cents a day extra if you keep the monitor 4 years. Hell i spend $450 a month just in gas for my truck and dropped $125 last Saturday night for dinner and drinks.. $200 is a drop in the bucket these days.
Gsync allows me to have glass smooth gaming even at low fps rates. its really quite shocking how well gsync actually works. Free sync works just as well just in a narrower band of frame rates.
Have you hiding under a rock
Have you hiding under a rock the last 2 years? Google LFC. Freesync works if the range is wide enough to support LFC. And if the monitor supports Freesync 2, LFC support is a default feature.
$200? This can’t be just
$200? This can’t be just Nvidia’s GSync tax and probably it isn’t. The Nvidia version also has AlienFX (RGB lighting) and I think touch support.

It has to be the alienware
It has to be the alienware tax to justify the prices.
Right now, you can get the Dell 27″ 1440p 144hz gsync display for about $500, depending on where and when you look.
The alienware monitors look pretty neat aesthetically, but those prices, doh!
Release date is June 13th?!
Release date is June 13th?! Forget it. I’d rather buy 27″ 2560 x 1440 240Hz G-Sync Monitor which is Lenovo Legion Y27gq Monitor. Luckily, it’s coming in Spring 2019. Hopefully, I should be able to purchase that monitor around March or April 2019. https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/accessories-and-monitors/monitors/gaming/Lenovo-Legion-Y27gq-Monitor/p/DD116LPY27G
