The story is somewhat different when looking through these tests, with AMD taking the top spot in many benchmarks and in others being surpassed only by the Core i7 6700k, in some tests that chip leaves all competition in the dust by a huge margin. For budget minded shoppers, the Ryzen 5 1600 barely trails both the i7-7700K and the 1600X in our productivity tests making it very good bargain for someone looking for a new system. I picked up a 1600 to replace
I picked up a 1600 to replace my 4690k, need more cores/threads for running kali vm’s. Amazon had it for $10 off and picked up some 3200mhz corsair lpx on the cheap. Just have to wait on the AM4 bracket for the AIO.

edit: any reason you didn’t go with the $299 R7 1700 if you needed the extra threads ?

Yeah you are probably right about the AIO but I want to see how far it can go. Who knows I might just slap it on another build down the line, it wasn’t freakishly expensive.
I don’t need 8c/16t to run a kali vm and the 1600 seems to be a better deal.
