3DMark, Unigine Heaven
Now that we have taken a look at our gaming tests using our Frame Rating metrics and testing methods, we are including a set of tests from more standard benchmarks like Unigine Heaven and the 3DMark benchmark.
I consider these tests to be somewhat of a "best case" for all the cards in our comparison. We aren't using our frame capture system, we aren't measuring frame latency, nothing like that; I think this should give you an idea of graphics performance if each vendor had the best result for each game.
With Fire Strike Extreme, we see a 6.5% increase for the 350-watt version of the Frontier Edition liquid-cooled card over the air-cooled, which also matches performance of the GTX 1080. In the Ultra iteration that different between Vega’s is nearly 7.5% and gives Vega a lead over the GTX 1080 of just under 4%.
In Unigine Heaven we find a 10% gain in performance between the air and liquid cooler iteration of the Vega Frontier Edition, which is solid, but that still leaves it 14% behind the GTX 1080.
