Intel has announced a live event on August 21 to reveal the new 8th-generation Core processor family. The Facebook Live stream will be available on both Intel's Facebook page or simply by visiting the Intel Newsroom, and it begins at 8:00 PDT (11:00 EDT) on 8/21.

All this talk about money, wallets, and selling kidneys for consumer PC hardware is kind of a bad look, honestly. No one is forcing you to buy these products. Even if you do need to have the latest and greatest, they’re only going to be about as much as a key purchase in any other hobby. A new pair of skis is right around $1000 for example, or the same as a spec’d out 8th gen Intel system. Name another thing people do with their time and match up the one k purchase; it’s a fun game you can play. By all means, if you personally have an obsession with selling your organs, I don’t want to stop you. PCIe lanes are going up with each chipset. The RAID key thing on the HEDT platform was so it wouldn’t cannibalize the server market, where they’ve been making those customers pay for RAID levels. I bet none of the locked configurations would even have gone into your hypothetical build, except now the presence of a dongle gives you reason to bitch. One legit gripe you could have raised is the 4k bluray lockout, but even that bs dates back to Windows DRM media files and is ultimately driven by factors outside of a chipmaker’s control.
Intel’s entire HEDT line
Intel’s entire HEDT line fails compared to AMD’s Threadripper platform with 16 core/32 threads at $999! ThreadRipper is the better deal with 64 PCIe lanes(No segememting there on AMD’s part), across all the Threadripper SKUs with a full 64 PCIe lanes offered, no RAID keys at an inflated cost necessary, or other Intel nickel and dime methods of milking the consumer for all they are worth. And the post that you are replying to is actually a reaction to the post above and that person’s comment “My body is ready” and really your sarcasm detector does not appear to be functional.
I do not care about bluray, as most movies are total crap and not worth watching! But back to your rather Daft reply and failed attempt at playing an apologist for the convected monopolist Intel. They are going to be watched this time sround as they are up to their usual dirty tricks again.
AMD’s Epyc 7401P, for example is such a great deal at only $76 dollars more than TR’s $999, that no sane Workstation user will even look at Threadripper for Workstation usage! And for that $1075 price on the Epyc 7401P the SKUs offers 24 cores/48 threads and 8 full memory channel support and 128 PCIe lane support!
All Epyc SKUs 8,16,24,32, core SKUs come with support for 8 memory channels and 128 PCIe lanes and AMD prices its single socket Epyc SKUs is such a way that AMD’s single socket Epyc SKUs offer the better deal than any of AMD’s consumer Threadripper offerings for workstation workloads. That 7401P at 24 cores/48 threads and 8 full memory channels and 128 PCIe lanes and the Epyc 7401P(24 cores/48 threads) SKU offers 8 more cores and 16 more threads for only $76 dollars more that the Threatripper 1950X’s 16/32.
AMD Offers some insanely good pricing on its single socket Epyc Workstation SKUs even compared to AMD’s consumer Ryzen/Threadripper based SKUs. That’s quite unlike Intel with its sky high Xeon pricing forcing Intel’s customers into using Intel’s consumer SKUs in an attempt at getting more affordable high core count CPU SKUs to attempt some workstation workloads on without the full support for certified ECC CPU/motherboard hardware.
AMD’s 7401P(24 cores/48 threads at $1075) is a great deal for an even better Price/Core, Price/PCIe lane(128 PCIe lanes), and Price for 8 channel memory capability. So any SANE potential Epyc Workstation Customer would not even look to Threadripper as a workstation replacement option in order to save money. AMD’s single core Epyc single socket “P” processors like the 7401P are such insanely good deals. The Epyc SKUs get 3 year warrentys, ditto for the motherboards usually, and FULLY Certified for ECC memory support for Epyc, damn those prices are so good.
Intel’s high margin pricing on all of its CPU SKUs is getting fustigated by AMD across all the consumer/professional markets and AMD’s Zen/Ryzen/Vega APUs are incoming for the APU/SOC market where Intel will again see its high margin pricing fustigated even more!
And Oh are Intel’s bean counters looking for more ways to segement Intel’s product offerings in order to milk for every little feature they can and Intel’s customers are going to balk at that when they do some comparsions with AMD’s offerings.

Intel’s Ultrabook was/is just
Intel’s Ultrabook was/is just an Ultracrook scheme by Intel at creating an under-powered/over-priced Laptop form factor in an Apple style attempt at overcharging just as much for a 2 core U series i7 CPU/SOC part as was charged for a quad core i7 series SKU at a previous time. Intel’s bean counters realized that dual core i7s could produce more chips/wafer and that Intel charging the same for a dual core U series i7 as a previous quad core i7 series was effectively doubling Intel’s per core profit margins.
The entire Intel funded Ultrabook initiative foisted/contra revenue funded on the entire OEM Laptop market is a textbook example of why abusive monopolies are bad for the consumer and innovation. And now Intel, under great pressure from AMD, is attempting to return to offering more cores/threads on its mobile/laptop SOC SKUs. AMD’s Ryzen/Vega quad cores are going to usher in more options for the regular form factor workhorse laptops with APU SKUs with better graphics at a more affordable price.
So now is the time to start going to the retailers/laptop OEMs and asking them where/when are the AMD Ryzen/Vega based laptops becoming available and why are you only offering up Intel based laptop SKUs for sale at your store’s retail locations. AMD’s integrated Vega graphics and some Zen based 4 core/8 thread laptop APU SKUs needs to come with dual channel DDR4 memory options, better screen resolution options, better non-ultrabook/non thin and light laptop form factor/cooling options. Where are the workhouse laptop options for those that want a desktop replacement laptop and not some ultrabook abomination!

AMD all the way. They are so much better bang for the buck especially at the high end. AMD is back from the dead and they can’t be stopped. They are not the shuffle along kind of walking dead, they are the running like hell to rip you apart World War-Z zombies! Intel is running scared, no terrified for it’s life, putting out all kinds of FUD. The next machine I build will be an EPIC or Ryzen 7 based system. I’m done with Intel’s extortion prices and handicapped (unless you PAY) chips.
