3DMark, Unigine Heaven

Let's look at a set of tests from more standard benchmarks like Unigine Heaven and 3DMark.

I consider these tests to be somewhat of a "best case" for all the cards in our comparison.  We aren't using our frame capture system, we aren't measuring frame latency, nothing like that; I think this should give you an idea of graphics performance if each vendor had the best result for each game.

Based on 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme, the RX Vega 64 and the GTX 1080 are close enough in performance to almost call it a tie. In Ultra, the RX Vega 64 has a 3-4% advantage. The RX Vega 64 Liquid has a 16% score lead over the GTX 1080, though our selection of benchmarked games doesn’t mirror that outlook. Fire Strike gives the RX Vega 56 a 13% advantage over the GTX 1070 that also doesn’t exactly manifest in real-world testing.

GeForce cards continue to maintain the edge in this synthetic test that is known to be heavier on tessellation than many other workloads.
