NVIDIA is adding a third SKU to their SHIELD TV line-up, shaving $20 off the price tag by including just a media remote, rather than the current low-end SKU’s media remote and a gamepad. This makes the line-up: SHIELD (16GB, Remote Only) for $179.00, SHIELD (16GB, Remote + Gamepad) for $199.99, and SHIELD PRO (500GB, Remote + Gamepad) for $299.99.
All SKUs come with MSI levels of uppercase brand names.
This version is for those who are intending to use the device as a 4K media player. If you are not interested in gaming, then that’s $20 in your pocket instead of a controller that you will never use on your shelf. If, however, you want to game in the future, then the first-party SHIELD CONTROLLER is $59.99 USD, so buying the bundle with the gamepad now will save you about $30 (Update, Sept 24th @ 5:45pm: $40… I mathed wrong.) That leaves a little bit to think about, but the choice can now be made.
The new bundle is now available for pre-order, and it ships on October 18th.
This is a 2015 chipset, it
This is a 2015 chipset, it should be either price cut much more severely or replaced. Is Nvidia blocked from upgrading the shield line due to their Nintendo agreement with the switch?
Nvidia doesn’t have a faster
Nvidia doesn’t have a faster SOC and neither does anyone else that’s affordable for a <$200 product. Its also still faster than just about any other STB, fares favorably with the PS3 and Xbox 360, and its also the same hardware as the Switch uses.

LOL NVIDIA
XBONE S is $199 and does 4K streaming and 4K bluray and plays more games (not just 10 year old ports) and comes with a controller and games.
And deal with all the
And deal with all the extraneous garbage that comes with it being a locked-down console first? Nah, no thanks.
Nvidia just realised that most of the people buying the Shield wanted it because it’s a high-powered Android TV box they can sidelong whatever APKs they want onto, and likely will never play a game on.
People buy the shield for it
People buy the shield for it being a powerfull media player but also because you can stream your games from the pc over the network to another room. Thats the best feature about it
Yeah that’s my main problem
Yeah that’s my main problem with XBox. Is that it’s primarily a game system. Got it for my parents to go with their 4K TV (to play Blu-Rays) and at the time I thought they could use it for all the streaming apps too.
But the interface is just such a mess. I don’t believe it would even play Blu-Rays out of the box, you have to download an app just to play one.
Ideally I want a higher powered Roku, that supports Chromecast and I will be pretty happy with that.
How does that math work? Save
How does that math work? Save $30 if controller bought now?
Whoops! I meant $40. Cutting
Whoops! I meant $40. Cutting a $60 controller reduces the price by $20.
I’ve had my Shield TV for
I’ve had my Shield TV for almost 2 years now; IMO it’s still one of the best streaming boxes on the market. The performance is very good and Nvidia just keeps pushing out new updates; mine has gone from Android 5.x->6.x->7.x and will probably get 8.x.
