New graphics drivers for GeForce cards were published a few days ago. Unfortunately, I became a bit reliant upon GeForce Experience to notify me, and it didn’t this time, so I am a bit late on the draw. The 385.69 update adds “Game Ready” optimizations for a bunch of new games: Project Cars 2, Call of Duty: WWII open beta, Total War: WARHAMMER II, Forza Motorsport 7, EVE: Valkyrie – Warzone, FIFA 18, Raiders of the Broken Planet, and Star Wars Battlefront 2 open beta.
We’re starting the holiday games rush, folks!
There isn’t really any major new features of this driver per se. It’s a lot of game-specific optimizations and a whole page of bug fixes, ranging from flickering in DOOM to preventing NVENC from freaking out at frame rates greater than 240 FPS.
One open issue is that GeForce TITAN (which I’m assuming refers to the original, Kepler-based one) cannot be installed on a Threadripper-based motherboard in Windows 10. The OS refuses to boot after the initial install. I’m guessing this has been around for a while, but in case you’re planning on upgrading to Threadripper (or buying a second-hand TITAN) it might be good to know.
If you haven’t received notification to update your drivers yet, poke GeForce Experience to make sure that it’s running and checking. Or, of course, you can download them from NVIDIA’s website.
i am still trying to find out
i am still trying to find out what is going on with the HD audio divers not working saying my AVR in not plugged in on the playback devices and on the Nvidia control panel saying i am using DVI not HDMI and i have tried everything to get it to work but still says the same
GFE is garbage at
GFE is garbage at notifications, also the latest beta version has removed it from the tray. I guess they don’t actually want us to use it now. Hell, not doing so might make it feel more reliable.
The latest update to GFE took
The latest update to GFE took out the system tray icon and notifications. It’s unclear if they are related or not, but for now you need to manually launch GFE to check for new drivers or optimizations as it doesn’t seem to be doing anything in the background.
Yeah, I knew they removed it
Yeah, I knew they removed it from the tray. Still figured that some part of it would be checking for updates, given that was a major reason for the software's existence. Odd.
Quite annoying, every time
Quite annoying, every time driver is upgraded, it resets default audio playback device from my sound card to whatever display port is connected to and I have to manually reset default back to my sound card.
What are people’s experience
What are people’s experience of driver quality these days? It seems like I hear more about issues with Nvidia drivers than issues with AMD drivers, but that doesn’t really tell me much. I would expect AMD drivers to be simpler actually, so they may actually have less problems.
I can’t say anything on the
I can’t say anything on the AMD end, but nvidia drivers for me have been terrible the last couple of years. I suspect they are not wholly to blame though, as Microsoft has been doing a lot of screwy shit with Windows 10.
Windows Creators update
Windows Creators update stealth installed a Nvidia driver and GFE a while back with a file number way in advance of anything Nvidia posted even though it was an old may driver, I’m sure that’s why my PC stopped notifying me of driver updates. I’m sure this Windows Nvidia install happened as part of a normal restart with no warnings or messages, no sure I’m onboard with that.
I’ve got to say, project cars
I’ve got to say, project cars 2 + oculus rift + fanatic wheel setup = awesome.
Interesting to see if the driver update improves anything on the VR side. I’ve been playing with settings on high default mode only 1.4 supersampling , and havnt noticed anything bad at all.
