Google has decided that YouTube should not work as advertised on any Amazon devices, in retaliation to Amazon refusing to stream Amazon Prime Video over Google Cast nor sell Google devices online. Currently you will just be redirected to YouTube.com when you launch your app but Google is planning on blocking all access from Echo or Fire TV in the near future. None of us particularly care about Google and Amazon's relationship problems but sadly, similar to children whose parents are going through a divorce, we are the ones who suffer. These two companies have been at it for a while, The Register covers some of the highlights of their disfunctional relationship here.
"Google is trying to stop Amazon Echo Show devices from streaming YouTube videos – and from January, it will block Amazon’s Fire TVs from accessing the vid service, too."

Maybe there needs to be
Maybe there needs to be streaming hardware neutrality like their needs to be net neutrality and these hardware streaming devices make both Google and Amazon nothing more than cable companies that are content providors just like Comcast/AT&T/others.
Folks need to put 2 and 2 together and see that with more folks cuttiing the traditional cable the cable intrests will turn the open internet into the new traditional cable model with that traditional cable business model preserved.
It’s time to go beyond the FCC and get to the Antitrust stage of things with the big content/traditional cable providors forced to divest of their Internet Service Providor holdings and Internet Service Providors not allowed to be content providors at the same time that they are Internet Service Providors.
Trust Busting Needs to become popular again and Google and Amanon are a tad bit hypocritical when there financial interests are at stake with those streaming devices little more than cable boxes tied some big interests’ revenue streams!
You can cut the Cable but now your Internet will become the cable and for content you will be paying the same way as under the old cable system as net neutrality gets an Ajit Pai in the face! And the internet users become internet surfs lorded over once again by the big cable interests that are at the same time as being the content providors also the Internet Service Providors. Peasants once again in this new glorious Internet Gilded Age!
Folks need to stop feeding
Folks need to stop feeding the companies that make them peasant slaves like amazon, facebook, apple and google.
Consumers are 100% to blame for this.
Alphabet (Google (YouTube))
Alphabet (Google (YouTube)) is really getting absurd.
To me it seems like Google
To me it seems like Google had no choice here really after Amazon’s policy. Blame Amazon. They were the first to restrict content.
There is a massive difference
There is a massive difference between Prime Video and YouTube. By blocking YouTube on platforms Google, Google is putting their own platform ahead of the interest of the people that is actually giving YouTube value (the creators).
They already screwed those creators on Microsofts platforms by their treatment of Microsofts YouTube app. When they blocked that app they made sure that apps like TubeCast, MetroTube and MyTube would take over, and reduce/remove ad-revenue on the platforms.
The value of services like Prime Video, Netflix etc on the other hand comes from the company behind it (Amazon/NetFlix).
Basically Google hurt third parties, Amazon only hurt themselves.
Grabs popcorn..
Grabs popcorn..
That and one of those Mother
That and one of those Mother Mary Jane XMAS Wreaths they are selling in LA LAnd because Google and Amazon have been smoking something and have gotten all paranoid.
Can I order one with the Cheech and Chong dressed up as XMAS elves ornaments! Well that’s another streaming devices relationship up in smoke!
Popcorn, Beer(several cases of Corona Extra), and one each of all those other snackfood items sold at the 7-eleven.
My fist response was LMAO and
My fist response was LMAO and then WTH & once I stopped doing that I thought all this is doing is hurting both companies client base & customers. I am sorry but can they not go and have their hissy fits on some else’s dime & time.
Reminds me of when you see 2 kids fighting for the same toy and having a hissy fit over nothing. Grow up already Google & Amazon there is more at stake here than just your pride and greed to rake in more cash think about your clients & customers first and how this is effecting them. I am sure there will be a few law suites over this from fed up customers.
About time.
Surprised google
About time.
Surprised google ever supported a competing platform like that, especially Amazon given it’s history.
I know right? Amazon has been
I know right? Amazon has been abusing Google for years now, and by extension their customers. They take Android, and cut google services out. They tried to sneak their App Store onto Android. Despite prime movies being on iOS, and the FireOS being based on Android, Prime Movies is not on Android devices. Amazon stopped selling googles devices.. and so on.and that was like, 2+ years ago, so the fact that they have been this patient, I’m all for it.
Yet another point why a HTPC
Yet another point why a HTPC is better than any of the “boxes and sticks” on the market. A real browser with real ad blockers. None of the approved app BS. On a side note ROKU and/or Twitch removed the Twitch app from the ROKU.
Google needs to be taken down
Google needs to be taken down a peg. Between their failures police grotesque content (ISIS, child pron), pushing relentless SJW nonsense, and demonetizing much of the user base that made them successful, they definitely have it coming. Amazon is one of the few with the ability, even though they may not have the moral high ground.
Hopefully google can hurt
Hopefully google can hurt amazon. I cant believe that people are actually stupid enough to use amazon at all, but most humans are pretty stupid.
Do you really want Alphabet
Do you really want Alphabet to take control of yet another market? They already control too much of the way people access and get information from the internet through Android, YouTube and Google Search. And they have proved that they shouldn’t be trusted with this power.
Do you really want them to control the dominant platform for the way people will watch TV in the future as well?
