Get ready to update your BIOS as MSI is now pushing out updated versions which will support the second generation of Ryzen processors. That's right ladies and germs, unlike the competitors brand, with Ryzen you can upgrade your processor without buying a new motherboard!
You won't be able to pick up the new chips until April, but there is no reason not to be ahead of the game. The updates also include the AMD AGESA 1.1.0.1 microcode update so head over to MSI for an update if you have one of the motherboards below.
MSI, the world leading gaming motherboard manufacturer, has pushed out BIOS updates for X370/B350/A320 motherboards to support new AMD 2nd Generation Ryzen Desktop Processors.
In order to support AMD 2nd Generation Ryzen Desktop Processors, MSI has released supportable BIOS version with AMD AGESA 1.1.0.1 for the current MSI AMD motherboards, including X370, B350, and A320 motherboards.
Updated BIOS version as below for each model could support AMD 2nd Generation Ryzen Desktop Processors and implements AMD AGESA 1.1.0.1 microcode to optimize CPU performance together with MSI AM4 motherboards.
I hate to wait until April,
I hate to wait until April, but with the prices of memory and video cards, I guess it might not be a bad idea. Is the video card demand driving the RAM prices also? Are the memory manufactures devoting more capacity to GDDR than DDR? I probably would be fine with 8 GB to start, but I would hate to buy 2x 4 GB modules, so 2x 8 GB seems to be the way to go, and that isn’t cheap right now.
Everybody hold on to your
Everybody hold on to your smartphones and do not upgrade so often! That will reduce the demand for DRAM and hit Samsung/the other 2 of the big 3 DRAM makers in their wallets.
Keep those smartphones longer and put off updating that smartphone hardware and let the Smartphone makers suffer also, until they get the price of PC/Laptop DRAM down to resonable levels.
This will also work for NAND pricing and that will get some attention for those DRAM/NAND makers.
Gamers and PC buliders/laptop owners, would you rather have lower cost DRAM or a new smartphone every year! Hit them right in their demand curve and that will bring down pricing.
They will have no “Fab Capacity” excuses if demand falls for smartphones and the DRAM/NAND makers try and reduce production further. They will get in trouble with the Regulatory angencies that already have the DRAM/NAND makers in their crosshairs!
Do you really need the latest smartphone or do you want lower DRAM/NAND pricing. hitting them in their wallets hurts more and will really get their attention!
