Microsoft is changing how they will distribute Windows S, their Chrome-like locked down OS. It will now become an option on all Windows 10 installations, allowing you to enable it if you feel the need to set up a computer which can only run apps from the Microsoft Store and only surf via Edge. The Inquirer cites an interesting fact, 83% of users who do not disable Windows S mode in the first week remain with that OS permanently. Perhaps they don't know any better, or perhaps they were one of those who were satisfied with the original Surface's Windows RT?
"Now, the company has confirmed that it will instead offer an "S Mode" on standard versions of Windows 10 instead, locking the machine down to a walled garden of apps from the Microsoft Store, and blocking traditional Win32 programs. And, of course, restricting you to using bloody Edge browser. "

Hopping links back to the source the Thurrott article states that percentage given is “On third-party devices”
So yes 83% of a subset of people who did not realize 10 S was garbage in the first week, stayed not knowing 10 S was garbage.
To frame it completely differently: “Over half of the effectively zero purchasers of third party devices shipping with 10 S realized immediately that it was hot garbage and converted it to 10 Pro…”

All windows 10 consumer
All windows 10 consumer variants are all S(shit/slurp) to me with all that spyware, bloatware, and update forcing included even on the “Pro” windows 10 SKUs that are really not Pro versions at all because eventually the updates can not be put off forever on W/10 Pro either.
Windows 10 enterprise is more like an actual Pro Version of windows but there are even some problems there and still many enterprises are using windows 7(The New XP).
On windows 7 Pro you can defer non security updates forever if that’s what you want and 8/8.1 has all that TIFKAM that needs to be turned off and some third party shell software installed. Windows 10 consumer anything is not getting on my hardware and that includes new hardware that gets the old wipe the drive treatment for any M$ OS but windows 7.
