It's time for the PCPer Mailbag, our weekly show where Ryan and the team answer your questions about the tech industry, the latest and greatest GPUs, the process of running a tech review website, and more!
On today's show, Ryan flees the area so Josh steps in to tackle your questions:
01:09 – Thunderbolt 3 built into chipset?
03:42 – New Threadripper, same socket?
05:47 – GPU and motherboard power connector placement vs. optimal cable management?
08:08 – No AMD drivers for Windows 8?
10:46 – USB 3.1 Gen 2 front panel compatibility?
12:18 – Where are the Raven Ridge mini desktops?
14:45 – Josh doesn't know which ThinkPads are used during the podcast.
15:11 – Allyn MIA?

“Where are the Raven Ridge
“Where are the Raven Ridge mini desktops”
Yes but Raven Ridge G series Desktop SKUs have cTDP of 46-65W according to AMD’s website and AMD has also rumored to have in development the Ryzen 7 2800H/lower H seres parts that are supposed to be up to 35-45 Watt rated notebook parts that would have up to Vega 11 graphics as an option for notebooks and mini desktop systems also.
And I think that there is definitely somtehing fishy going on in the very popular Mini-Desktop/Barebones Mini PC market if Zotac can announce a part as the first AMD design win but not bring that product to market as of 6 months late currently from being announced in January/CES 2018.
There has do be more questions asked to the OEMs and the Raven Ridge Graphics is great for that mini form factor but it appears that there are only Intel “Options” with AMD’s better Integreted Vega graphics no where to be found currently. Zotac Needs to be directly asked about their ZOTAC ZBOX MA551 with the Raven Ridge Options as 6 months and no product is not normal for any maker.
Also if the OEM’s are not going to be supplying the parts because they are getting incentivized from Intel/Nvidia then the PC enthusiasts websites need to be trying to obtain the smallest form factor cases and AM4 motherboards and trying to test some very small form factor builds of their own and let their readers see some benchmarking/thermal testing of the smallest form factor build it yourself systems that make use of Raven Ridge desktop APUs.
AMD’s Integrated Vega graphics is around twice as performant as Intel’s current offerings so I do not understand the lack of AMD Options unless that OEM market is getting finanacially incintivized to only use Intel/Nvidia offerings.
Does 4k texture resolution
Does 4k texture resolution have anything to do with ability to tell difference between 4k & 2k textures on a 4k display? I don’t think so, I think at most it has to do with PPI. Size of mesh is the largest factor for sure.
I recently upgraded a family
I recently upgraded a family member’s 128GB m.2 SATA SSD in their laptop to a 500GB Crucial MX500. I was wondering what I can use the old drive for in my main PC. Any ideas?

Go over to r/hardware there is a Forum post there that links to that actual agreement over at Heise.de, the image of the NDA(The NDA is in English) is over at Heise.de. Interesting discussion also at r/hardware!

Its interesting how many
Its interesting how many people find an open ended NDA with no expiration date justifiable. You have to formally submit a OPT OUT letter.
Nvidia got you by the balls.
You can install Windows 10
You can install Windows 10 without activation. I think you only loose the ability to change themes on the desktop. There is no time limit.
I have a couple of questions.
I have a couple of questions. First how will The Intel dude leaving affect Roj new job at Intel, since he seems to have a lot of authority that was given to BK and seems like he could lose a lot of that power Since Bk left?
Second what is going on with Allyn, is he coming back? Love to listen to him talk about storage.
