It's time for the PCPer Mailbag, our weekly show where Ryan and the team answer your questions about the tech industry, the latest and greatest GPUs, the process of running a tech review website, and more!
On today's show:
01:06 – Intel vs. AMD in 2019?
05:04 – Reliability of CPU and GPU silicon?
06:33 – Cases with 5.25-inch bays?
09:12 – 2K vs. 4K textures in games?
11:06 – Using an old m.2 SATA SSD in a desktop?
13:00 – NVIDIA NDAs?

Considering what Buildzoid
Considering what Buildzoid has said(1) about the current X399/TR4 MBs’ VRM capabilities for Overclocking on 32 core Threadripper 2(Issues with possibily pushing the VRMs past their most efficient performance range), will there be any new X399 MBs with ample VRMs that will not have their VRMs be pushed outside of the most efficient operating envelope when Overclocking any TR2 32 core CPUs?
What about a VRM’s efficiency curve and their most efficient operating range and is more VRMs the way to go for those that are really into Overclocking high core count CPU SKUs?

Any thoughts why the FX-8350
Any thoughts why the FX-8350 is still among the Amazon top sellers a year after Ryzen? This seems surprising as you can get more threads at lower power from a Ryzen chip.

Just like to clarify my
Just like to clarify my question. People talk about how higher resolution textures look better, but there are diminishing returns. Sometimes I take a comparison picture between a 4k version of a texture and a 2k version and see literally no difference (rare but happens). I believe this is only due to the fact that the mesh – the model the texture is being stretched over – is too small for the degradation in fidelity to be noticed even on a 2k version.
But a few people claim this is because I’m running the game in 1440p and not 4k. I think just because there are two specs here (texture resolution vs game resolution) with the word ‘resolution’ in it doesn’t mean they are in any way linked.
Agree? xD
With Intel’s 10nm delayed why
With Intel’s 10nm delayed why haven’t they released a “tock” to update the architecture? The CPU cores have been Skylake based for a while now. I thought the point if tick-tock was to de-couple design and manufacturing.
People are fairly stupid
People are fairly stupid generally and do not like change. So I do think the majority will keep on buying Intel, even if it might be half the speed, half the power etc. People follow Intel just like they follow Apple…
By the way, 7nm will for sure make a big difference on power.
