The 2950X and 2990WX are both ThreadRipper 2 chips but are very different beasts under the hood. The 2950X has two active die similar to the original chips while the 2990WX has four active die, two of which utilize an Infinity Fabric link to the other two to communicate to the memory subsystem. The W in the naming convention indicates the 2990WX is designed for workstation tasks and benchmarks support that designation. You will have seen our results here, but there are many other sources to read through. [H]ard|OCP offers up a different set of benchmarks in their review, with a similar result; with ThreadRipper AMD has a winner. The 2990WX is especially important as it opens up the lucrative lower cost workstations market for AMD.

Yea it will be Intel getting out their crayons again and coming out with marketing fluff data sheets with terms like glued together etc etc etc.
Next year when the Zen2 based
Next year when the Zen2 based Epyc/Rome based SKUs appear there will probably be some nice Epyc/Naples deals to be had after a while. So it will good for the Epyc/SP3 branded parts and some great deals on Epyc/Naples first generation SKUs.
Also at some point in time there will appear a used Epyc/Naples market for servers and that’s candy on the cake for some deal seakers also. What I’ll be looking at is some of the dual socket Naples/Epyc systems with 16 memory channels(8 per socket) offerings on some remanufactured/refurbished Epyc/Naples server SKUs. Those older leased systems also when they begins to show up for sale in the used equipment supply chains for a great bargain.
TR2 2990WX looks to be needing some Optimizations owing to that unique Compute Die layout and maybe AMD will get that tweaked enough to not require completely disabiling the 2 compute Dies on windows. And some Linux OS distros(ones that phrononix has tested) sure love the 2990WX more than windows does. I just wonder if all that Windows 10 bloat/spyware is clogging up the available TR2 cores that have the near mamory access and maybe Windows needs to keep that Windows bloat over on the TR2 dies that have only far memory access.

Jeremy, I think it would be a good idea to point a news article at Phononix’s tests(like you do here with HardOCP). Either tests used there aren’t heavy on memory, or Windows 10 is the wrong OS for the 2990WX. In Linux tests, 2990WX looks like it is another chip.

Is anyone having problems on
Is anyone having problems on the Phoronix website with high CPU usage in the browser(IE11). Because I have been avoiding going there lately. I do not want to resort to using an ad blocker but I may have to as the ads are really starting to lock up IE11 on many websites lately.
Hell on Ars Technica today it went all 4 cores/8 threads 100%, quad core i7, for a good long while before I closed the page. But Phoronix is really hobbled with some annoying ads lately that cover the page and can not be closed. Really what is going on with any website needing between 14 and 30% of a 4 core/8 thread processor’s cycles over a long period of time, I can understad at page loadup but not for the entire time that I’m there with constant 14-30%+ processor usage.
Is Internet Explorer Just that crappy lately or is it mostly the ads.
