It looks way overpriced
It looks way overpriced compared to a RAID solution.
Anyone buying these drives
Anyone buying these drives will be running them in a RAID of some sorts.
So tell me for approximately
So tell me for approximately a thousand dollars which solution do you prefer, 2×14 TB of Barracuda Pro from Seagate or 4×8 TB UltraStar He8 from HGST? How long would you wait for rebuilding/repairing your array?
The selection with the smaller disks would rebuild in a shorter period of time if read/write speeds of the disks are the same. This assumes the 14TB drives are in a mirror and the 8TB drives are raid 5,6 or 10.
If 1 drives fails in either scenario, the rebuild time would be how long it takes to rewrite the entire replacement.
BUT, some controllers are smart enough to only rebuild the used space. So if you only have 1TB of data in total on these examples, the rebuild time could be very similar.
THATS A BIG NOPE!!!
