In a move reminiscent of the old Quack.exe debacle, Huawei has been caught enhancing benchmark results. Their recent phones are able to detect a running benchmark and will switch to "Performance Mode" which uses "AI to optimize the performance of hardware, including the CPU, GPU and NPU" because everything has an AI in it now, apparently. This would be much worse if not for two things, they are correct in stating that their local competitors do the same thing and they have agreed to allow users to access this Performance Mode on their own. That will increase the performance of the phone but you can expect the battery life to plummet.
If you are interested in diving deeper into this, you can check out that link to The Inquirer.
"Earlier this week, AnandTech revealed that the Chinese phonemaker has benchmark detection software installed on the Huawei P20, Honor Play, and possibly other devices packing its homegrown Kirin 970 processor, which makes the chip perform better by raising its power limit."

A chinese company cheating on
A chinese company cheating on benchmarks? Surprise surprise
It’s even worse, they can’t
It’s even worse, they can’t STFU.

Of course there is Intel and
Of course there is Intel and those AnTuTu Benchmarks being manipulated(1). So that’s so much for that Manchurian Theory there ya Bubbas! And do not forget that automation will be what brings the jobs back where No Meatsacks Need Apply. Once The Robotic/AI methods are perfected it will be the costs related to shipping that will outweigh the costs of Labor and the factories can then be located close to the markets from which their production is consumed(Save on shipping costs with with the labor costs being so Robotically Low).
And Intel could not even Contra Revenue its way into the mainstream Phone/Tablet markets. And Apple and Amazon are both Trillion Dollar Market Cap companies the old fashoned way with their buy low and sell high to the Bubbas and Hipsters out there trying to keep up with the those vapid Joneses(Or Kardashians, oh so equally vapid also!
These Companies are cheating because there in so much money to be made in doing so and those little fines are but a parking ticket to those Billions/Trillion dollar market cap companies. And just look and see what little Intel had to pay to AMD in restitution and even other related unfair trade fines and that was nowhere near enough to make AMD whole.
It’s more like Companies will always cheat if there are profits to be made and the only thing that the CEOs worry about is the shareholders, so the cheating will continue with those little slaps of the wrists so small.
I’ll bet that both of you Bubbas are very much for Citizens United and against net neutrality! You folks on both sides of the lunatic fringe nut pie are equally vapid and always so ready for your Bling Narcissistic purchasing habits that have created the Amazons, Apples, and Intel/others that love to keep you lunatic fringe nuts distracted fighting with each other why they purchase up all of your elected officials. Look at all those urban hipsters city hicks and you Country hicks all dancing to the fiddle that those Mega-Nationals play. Ah ha Ha HA!

Bad benchmark gave bad results”

They pretty much have to
They pretty much have to cheat since they put low/mid range GPUs in their highest end SoCs. Why they don’t just put in better GPUs (more Mali cores) is the question.
There was a performance mode
There was a performance mode on one of the custom roms for my galaxy tab 2 that ran a little hot and sucked battery but I still appreciated having for apps and games that needed the boost. This could be a plus for people like me only want to run flat out some of the time. I would like it to be a feature of all android phones and tablets really. Have your battery saver mode and power user modes like some cars use today. If only the saver mode could stretch a battery out a week or something close it might be a thing.
