3DMark and Unigine Superposition

Before we get into the real-world game tests, let's take a quick look at relative performance across our tested GPUs with some synthetic benchmarks.

3DMark

3DMark shows some impressive scaling of almost 50% between the Pascal-based GTX 10 series and the Turing RTX GPUs. The RTX 2080 also sees a performance lead of around 15% over the previous highest-end NVIDIA offering, the GTX 1080 Ti.

  GTX 1080 GTX 1080 Ti Vega 64 RTX 2080
RTX 2080 + 47% + 13% + 41%
RTX 2080 Ti + 93% + 48% + 86% + 31%

Unigine Superposition

Performance scaling across generations isn't nearly as high as 3DMark, around 30%. When comparing the RTX 2080 to the GTX 1080 Ti, we actually see a performance regression of around 1%. Taking the margin of error into account, this means the RTX 2080 and GTX 1080 Ti are virtually identical in this benchmark.
