The news is a bit late as NewEgg is currently out of stock, but it is worth keeping your eyes peeled for the Vega 56; a mid-range card at a mid-range price is somewhat rare at the moment.
MSI are selling their Vega 56 Air Boost 8G OC card for $279 USD, though keep away from the Canadian site as the price drop has yet to spread northwards. While not availble at the time of this posting you should pay attention as not only is the card likely to come back in the not too distant future but this may prompt a drop in price for other cards.
This particular model sports a Core Clock of 1181 MHz which can hit 1520 MHz on Boost and the 8GB of HBM2 runs at 1600 MHz on a 2048-bit interface giving it an impressive amount of bandwidth. It is admittedly not a new card, you can see how it was received when it initially launched right here.
Initially launched results
Initially launched results are just too out of date and some more Undervolting testing results would be the better to show for Vega 56 and testing the card that way for updated gaming results/power usage metrics against those launch day results.
Really the Radeon drivers have been improved with some Gaming Title fixes so the Initially launched results are way past their sell by date and looking more like those wierdly growing things that have the look of a science project one finds at the back on the refrigerator.
Benchmarking reviews that omit the Vega 56 in the included test results against any competator’s products should set the klaxons to wailing. Also those Price/Performance figures that omit using the latest average retail pricing
really should earn any Reveiwer/Review Site some much deserved mistrust.
Only AMD fanboys would talk
Only AMD fanboys would talk about undervolting their AMD electric radiator whereas the average Joe would prefer nVidia GPU because IT JUST WORKS! :o)

But Nvidia uses TSMC to fab
But Nvidia uses TSMC to fab their GPUs and Chipman does not like TSMC!
The HBM2 runs at 800 MHz not
The HBM2 runs at 800 MHz not 1600 MHz.
800Mhz but it’s at Dual Data
800Mhz but it’s at Dual Data Rate with one bit transferred on the Rising and one bit transferred on the Falling edge of that 800Mhz clock, so it’s 1600MhZ effective.
But Yes it’s actually 800Mhz.
In Canada Memory Express
In Canada Memory Express has/had a ASUS ROG Strix Vega 56 8GB card for $439.99CAD which would have been a steal of a deal if they had some online stock on it. Regular price for this card was like $879.99CAD. I was not thinking of getting a new card until I see what AMD does with Navi but if they would have had stock in the online store I probably would have picked one of these cards up to replace my current Sapphire R9 390x 8GB card.
But of coarse there was no stock left so I will wait and see what happens with Navi and of it does not pan out I probably will just get a Nvidia RTX 2070 8GB card and use it for a few years.
