There are still those of us who prefer to avoid Microsoft's latest OS, and for them today's annoucement from BIOSTAR may be of interest. The motherboard maker has announced Windows 7 support for its latest motherboards for both Intel and AMD platforms, an interesting move in a market where Windows 10 is a requirement for many new products. The company is aware of the end of support for Windows 7, and they encourage users to take advantage of the SHA-2 Security Update, which enables Windows Update beyond July 16, 2019.
"Whilst Microsoft may be ending support for the older Window 7 operating system, users can still secure their machine with the upcoming SHA-2 Security Update. It is vital for legacy OS users to install the security update, machines without the security patch will be vulnerable. For advanced data security, the BIOSTAR H310MHG motherboard also comes with a TPM header for TPM modules making it perfect for government organizations that require the highest level of data security. TPM modules are used in conjunction with other security technologies such as biometric verification, antivirus software, firewalls, smart cards, and others."

So… what? Now that their W10 quota is met, they are backporting W10 compatibility features to W7 while at the same time eliminating support?
MS Y U NO MAKE SENSE??!
M$ is selling windows 7
M$ is selling windows 7 extended support to enterprise and volume licensing customers, governmental and educational customers also, until 2023. So some featuers are going to be backported to windows 7 because that’s just business as usual for M$ and folks are paying for extended windows 7 support so MB makers will have to offer some extended windows 7 support also. It will sale more MBs in the long run and millions will not be on windows 10 even after 2020 and windows 7’s “EOL”.
It makes perfect sense, moreso than the basement dwelling gamers who have no clue how the real world functions.
Windows 7 is, IN FACT, the New XP and M$ is offering extended security updates to select customers who have plenty of available funds to pay. It’s actually a great value those extended Windows 7 security update costs until 2023 compared to the really high costs of vetting/certifying any enterprise’s mission critical software(millions) for any new OS, windows 10, or otherwise!
This is great news because I
This is great news because I am currently going through having to find decent hardware for 2 systems for one of my customers that need Windows 7 Pro because 2 out of their 6 programs they rely on daily to run their clinic will not work on Windows 10 even in compatibility mode. I found that the ASUS Prime CSM boards with the H310 R2.0 or C which ever you prefer to call it has the needed drivers for Intel’s USB drivers and the management module it is to bad though that the Coffee lake iGPU still has no drivers and I had to spec out the cheapest video card I could get to make the systems work.
