Improve Your Sonos Ikea Symfonisk Speakers

These specific $99 bi-amp-able speakers from Ikea contain a well designed EMI shielded motherboard with a WiFi socket and a heatsink which offers you all the features of a Sonos device, like Airplay-2, TruePlay and of course, Sonos.  This post over at MAKEzine walks you through transplanting that hardware into a better bookshelf speaker enclosure as well as connecting better speakers to them.

Once you have everything set up, working and tuned, you could think about enabling that WiFi connection for even more functionality.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to whittle away the woefully inefficient compact speaker unit, and bring it to life on a pair of quality vintage bookshelf speakers.
